  We love having our family reunions at the YMCA trout lodge! They have awesome big rooms that your family can hang out in, and soooo many activities to keep your family busy! The food was great! The staff was kind. Everything was awesome!

  I want to start by saying that all of the staff were incredibly nice and accommodating. That being said, I believe this facility has some major policy issues that may be preventing it from attracting more business. As a Washington County resident, a day pass is only $20 and includes a meal, lake access, watercraft rentals, mini golf, and more. On paper, it sounds like an amazing deal, right? The problem lies within some of the rules and restrictions. Although kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes are included with admission, you are not allowed to get off your vessel and enter the water at any point. Additionally, half of the lake is off-limits, which significantly limits the experience. Now, regarding the swimming area: the area itself is not very large, and the water quality was disappointing. There was a lot of algae floating around, which made the swimming experience less enjoyable. The age restrictions around swimming were understandable in some ways. Children under a certain age are required to stay in a smaller 3-foot area without a life vest, which is a reasonable safety precaution. However, the rest of the swimming area requires an adult to remain within arm’s reach, even when a child is wearing a life vest. What I found confusing was how the swimming test results affected the rules. If a child completed the full swimming test, they were allowed to swim in the deeper area without a life vest. However, if they only completed part of the test, they could still swim in the deeper area without an adult directly beside them as long as they wore a life vest. For families with older children who are capable swimmers, this felt contradictory. My 12-year-olds would have gladly kept their life vests on and followed safety rules while we supervised nearby, but the restrictions made it difficult to manage multiple children and fully enjoy the experience. What made the rules even more confusing was that activities like the rope swing and other water play areas allowed children to participate with a life vest and without an adult directly beside them. Some children were even allowed to use the rope swing without a life vest. The rules felt inconsistent because certain activities appeared to have fewer restrictions than simply swimming in the designated area. For families with multiple children, these policies make it difficult to relax and get the full experience they paid for. It can leave guests feeling like they are not getting the full value of what they paid for. With a few adjustments to make the rules more consistent while still prioritizing safety, I truly believe this place could be much busier and appeal to more families. I personally live in a lake community, so I understand the importance of water safety, but I also feel there is a way to balance safety with allowing guests to enjoy the amenities they are paying for. The best part of the experience was honestly the included meal, which was good quality and a great value for the price.

  Beautiful place nestled in the Fourche Renault hills ... my friends had a room in the lodge with a walk out patio right on the lake... 3 meals a day included in room price! There are many activities.... you can take a sunset cruise after dinner or enjoy the myriad of outdoor activities and equipment provided by the lodge at little or no charge ... KIDS RULE AT THIS PLACE! Great place to experience many new things.

  Stayed with a big group and did lots of group activities all together, and the staff were great with us and very patient when 30 people showed up to archery and axe throwing! Some of us thought the beds weren't very comfortable and the cabins were a bit dated but that's exactly what I was expecting from a place like this for a more rustic experience. I didn't mind! I also have had some pretty bad food at places like this and I have to say, the cafeteria food was really good and had tons of options. I'm vegetarian and was expecting to only eat sides but there were so many vegetarian/vegan/GF options! There was also just so much to do and I felt like we barely scratched the surface! Looking forward to coming back next year!
