I’m a traveling healthcare worker who books through my company. They sent the corporate credit-card authorization multiple times before I arrived. Clear, documented, standard procedure. What should have been a simple five-night stay turned into a five-day nightmare of incompetence that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.
Night one: no authorization on file. After driving all day for work, I slept in my car. In Nevada, Missouri. With absolutely nothing — no blanket, no pillow, just the hard trunk of my car. One night doesn’t sound like much — until you’re the one doing it. It’s cold. It’s humiliating. And it is completely, 100% avoidable. This is a “never event.” It should happen exactly zero times.
The next four nights were Groundhog Day on steroids. Every morning a different associate would swear it was fixed. “Go ahead and use your room, everything’s good.” I’d return from work and get locked out again because the afternoon shift had never heard of the morning shift. One front-desk worker literally told me, straight-faced, “I can’t speak for the other shift.” At the same hotel. Same desk. It was like watching a game of corporate telephone played by people who hate their jobs.
Then came check-out morning. With my personal card already locked from earlier nonsense, they decided to run twenty separate $400 authorization attempts over five hours. Twenty. My phone lit up like a slot machine in meltdown. My bank asked if I was being robbed. I wasn’t. I was just trying to leave the Holiday Inn Express in Nevada, Missouri.
The room itself? Fine. Bed was comfortable, breakfast was whatever. None of that matters when the front desk treats a corporate authorization like it’s optional and your personal card like an ATM they get to keep punching.
To every traveling professional, healthcare worker, or anyone whose company foots the bill: do yourself a favor and book literally anywhere else. In fact, I’d advise pitching a pup tent at the nearest campground — like Osage Prairie RV Park right here in Nevada — before ever booking at this Holiday Inn Express. The view is nicer, the air is fresher, the facilities are far better maintained, and the experience is guaranteed to be better. It could absolutely not be worse.
One night in the trunk was one night too many. Never again.

I was forced to check out early due to experiencing a bed bug infestation during my stay. Not only was the stay a negative experience--The process for getting a refund has been a total nightmare.

Update almost 3 months later my credit card is still on hold from being charged 3 times for the room. I have not got a dime back yet. The card company told me there is nothing they can do they are getting no help from the holiday inn. I still have not received one dime back from being charged 3 times for the room. They did not even refund me the original charge for the room for putting my card on hold for 3 months for charging me 3 times for the same room. I will keep posting so you all can know what kind of bad business this hotel does. I expected this in China or the Philippines or any other country i done business. Nope this is the only hotel I stayed at in the world that will punish you up to 3 months later so far. I will make sure to keep you all updated until it is resolved.
