My family and I stayed at the InterContinental Kansas City on the Plaza (InterContinental Kansas City At The Plaza) from July 31 to August 2 for a girls weekend with my kids. I bought one drink at the hotel bar, $13 plus a $1 tip, and closed my tab immediately. Days later my credit union flagged suspicious activity on my card from this hotel. When I checked, there was a $241 pending charge I never authorized. At checkout, the Front Office Manager investigated and confirmed that the bartender had altered my $1 tip to over $200 in their system. I filed a formal complaint, spoke with hotel management, and the corporate office. The GM’s own written response admitted to the charge being “erroneously authorized” and offered to comp my $13.56 drink (which has yet to occur). A comped drink does not address over $200 that was taken from my account without my consent. I have since disputed the charge with my bank, filed with IHG corporate, and I am now considering a police report. It has been almost 4 weeks with no real resolution and no refund. If this can happen to me, it can happen to any guest paying with a card at this property. Guests deserve to know their payment information is safe here. IHG Hotels & Resorts, this needs to be made right. #InterContinental #IHG #ConsumerProtection #KansasCity

What a great team, start to finish! My daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and two of my nieces were looking for a girl's day out at the pool. Working on the Plaza myself, I suggested the Intercontinental. Myrene Shifley booked our reservation seamlessly and had our passes waiting for our arrival. We were warmly greeted by Tristan, the supervisor, and Laquice at the coffee bar. I sat with the girls for a bit as they ordered breakfast. The server Arnee was gracious and efficient. Finally, Erica at the front desk processed our payment quickly and invited us back soon. The ride home was boisterous as the girls talked about the wonderful day they had at the pool and the service at the pool bar provided by Andre. Overall, a great experience, mostly attributed to the wonderful people working there. My family wants to do it again soon.

It’s a very nice hotel. From being out of town and finding one that looks like this and has great customers service! My buddy and I stayed there for a night. Pool was great! Not sure about anything because we didn’t have time to explore more. I feel like you shouldn’t have to pay to park your car in a parking garage that the hotel offers for you to park in. We didn’t see anyone that was doing the valet parking for the hotel. Other than that the experience was very well. The room we were in had an amazing view!

The good: Great Location in KC! Close to restaurants, bars, and shopping. The bad: This is NOT a 4 star hotel! Do NOT stay here...it was recommended to me from a friend who lives here. We were from out of town. Our experience was...no early check-in was allowed, when we arrived at the check-in time, the line was 20 people deep, with only 2 people checking people in and the staff seemed very confused and unorganized! The staff was obviously overwhelmed. My wife and I had a reservation and they still placed us next to a suite with multiple families that were there for a wedding and were out of control until the early hours of the morning, even after calling to complain about the noise and screaming. The balcony door did not open and even if it did, there were no chairs to even sit on the balcony. The TV didn't work half the time, the shower was cold, the room was musty, and everything seemed damp, the carpet, sheets, and pillows. The hotel looked and felt like it was still in the 1960s! There was mold in the bathroom, caulk all over the bathroom, only enough coffee for 2 people, no extra...half the electrical outlets didn't work. For the price we paid, it was more like a 2 star "Motel"! The only positive review I can provide was the valet...they were awesome but kept apologizing for all the chaos that was happening at the hotel, which was NOT their fault. I have have stayed at several Intercontinental Hotels in the past and this one was definitely the WORST! We will never be back and highly recommend that nobody stays at this so called 4 Star hotel!!!

Love the rooms, especially the balcony rooms that overlook the plaza. However, my most recent trip I checked in early and made my way to the pool. At 1:30pm on a Friday, it was packed with kids. Not ideal for relaxing, but I have headphones. I settled into the only lounge chair available only to be told 10 minutes after getting there that I had to move to make room for a live band. We really need a live band at 2pm on a Friday? In a space with a bunch of kids and kid related noise already? There were no other lounge chairs available, so it was back to the room for me. I was crazy disappointed, since a main reason we chose to stay here was to enjoy the pool this afternoon. Edit: I have been made aware that the hotel sells day passes for the pool to non-guests, which might explain why it was so packed. That's really unfortunate if it prevents guests from using the amenities.
