Bed and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast was descent. Pool unheated, hot tub warm, but no bubbles, well 3 jets barely bubbled. The pool area and the pool/ hot tub were in desperate need of cleaning.

We usually choose IHG hotels because we have consistently had good experiences, but unfortunately this Holiday Inn Express in Independence, MO was very disappointing.
We originally booked one night and called to extend our stay for a second night. We were told the night was simply added, but instead a separate reservation was created, which meant we had to check in again the next day.
The hotel itself appears much older than the photos online suggest and is in serious need of updating. Smoking was allowed right near the entrance, which was unpleasant. Our first room keys did not work, the elevator ride was concerning, the room door had to be forced open, the room had a bad odor, only one light worked, and there was no phone.
We requested another room, and thankfully the staff moved us. The second room was better, but there were still black marks and scratches in the bathtub, we had to kill several spiders, and there was no Do Not Disturb sign.
To make matters worse, after checkout I discovered additional charges of about $100 per night beyond what was shown on my hotel receipts. I have already contacted the hotel and opened a case regarding those charges.
The staff did accommodate our room change, which I appreciated, but overall this property did not meet the level of cleanliness, maintenance, comfort, or reliability we normally associate with IHG. I hope the hotel is updated and these issues are addressed.
I would probably give this 2 out of 5 stars—mainly because they did move you to another room and you were able to complete the stay, but the number of problems is far too much for an IHG property.
No complaints.
I had a great stay at the Holiday Inn in Independence. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well‑maintained from the moment I walked in. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and quick to help with anything I needed, which made the whole experience feel easy and stress free. My room was spotless, quiet, and cozy exactly what you want after a long day. The bed was comfortable, the amenities were in good condition, and everything worked the way it should. The common areas were also tidy and inviting, and the hotel felt safe and well cared for. The location is convenient, close to restaurants, shopping, and major roads, but still peaceful enough to relax. Overall, this Holiday Inn delivered a smooth, pleasant stay with great service and a comfortable environment. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Independence.
The location was great as I was in town for a wedding. I called ahead because I new I had to bring my pet. The lady I spoke with on the phone was wonderful as was the person who checked me in. I paid 177 dollars per night which was the price without my pet. That additional fee is not why my rating is low. I understand with the FIFA games being in KC prices were higher and also the economy is higher in general. One week after I reserved my room though your prices went down by a lot. My room was nice at first but I started noticing bugs on the morning after I arrived. Ants, roly polys, other weird crawling things all over the place and what I thought might have been a roach at one point. I promptly killed that though. All of these things are the reason for my rating. Along with the fact for the last 2 nights of my stay children were screaming while running up and down the hallways into the very early hours of the morning. It was quite loud and im quite sure im not the only person who heard it. I know there are many noises in hotels but I've stayed in hotels before and I would have expected all of this from a much cheaper side of the road motel, not from a holiday inn express. Especially for the price that was paid.
