If I could give 2 1/2 stars I would but you're not getting 3. It wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't good. The location in general is okay, highways close, shopping close, and I love the Chinese buffet place. But the way the hotel is so tucked back in the corner, I struggled to find it after my missed my right turn after the Natural Grocers. Breakfast was okay but be prepared to fight the flies for it. The shower had was not attached properly so the bathroom got soaked. I let the front desk lady know and they had someone up to fix it right away but unfortunately the shirt I was going to wear got soaked because I'd hung it in the bathroom to unwrinkle while I showered. Thankfully I had something else to wear. And to their credit they did come to fix it immediately, hence the 3 stars for service. But now that I think about it I had to use the only 3 towels they gave us to mop up the floor and when they replenished them they only gave us 2 towels. Wasn't very thrilled with that. We were there for an event at the event center and stayed at the hotel because it was discounted. Should I ever attend another event at the event center I will likely stay somewhere else.
We were extremely disappointed with our stay at the Best Western Rochester Hotel Mayo Clinic Area.
From the moment we walked into the hotel, we were hit with an overwhelming chlorine smell. Unfortunately, that wasn't limited to the common areas. Our room also smelled heavily of bleach and cleaning chemicals to the point that it was unpleasant and difficult to relax.
The noise level was another major issue. Children were running up and down the hallways late into the night, and the disturbance continued until around 1:00 a.m. Despite trying to get some rest, the constant noise made it nearly impossible.
The beds were among the most worn-out and uncomfortable hotel beds we've ever experienced. The mattresses had little support left and sagged badly, causing you to sink into them. We actually had to request extra towels and place them underneath us just to make the bed somewhat tolerable for sleeping.
The problems didn't stop there. The toilet clogged every single day of our stay. After repeatedly calling for assistance, by the third occurrence we asked the hotel to leave a plunger in our room permanently because it had become such a recurring issue.
To make matters worse, the toilet seat itself was cracked and deeply scratched, with dirt and grime embedded in the damaged areas. It looked unhygienic and long overdue for replacement, so we had to request that it be replaced as well.
The shower was equally frustrating. The shower head was clogged and had to be replaced, and the shower drain initially barely worked. Every shower left us standing in a growing puddle of water because it simply wouldn't drain properly. To the hotel's credit, they did eventually fix the drain after we reported it. However, it raises the question: why were these issues not identified and addressed before the room was rented to guests?
As if that weren't enough, the shower curtain didn't even reach the floor. Water poured out onto the bathroom floor during every shower, leaving a slippery mess that had to be cleaned up each time.
The ceiling was covered in dust bunnies!
Even basic things like using the sink became annoying. Good luck trying to rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth. The water pressure was so restricted that it took forever for a usable amount of water to come out. You end up standing there waiting and waiting just to wash your face or rinse your toothbrush.
We raised these concerns multiple times with both the front desk staff and the manager, Richard. After numerous complaints throughout our stay, the hotel eventually offered approximately 15% off as compensation. Given the number and severity of the issues we experienced, this felt completely inadequate.
What makes this especially disappointing is that we were traveling from Canada with my disabled wife for appointments at the Mayo Clinic. The last thing families in that situation need is to deal with ongoing maintenance problems, uncomfortable accommodations, poor sleep, and repeated trips to the front desk.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially those traveling for medical reasons or with family members who have disabilities and need a comfortable, reliable place to stay.
If this is the Best Western, I'd hate to see the Worst Western.
The only reason I'm giving this hotel 1 star is because the breakfast was actually decent. Other than that, this was one of the most frustrating hotel stays we've ever experienced, and we will not be returning.
I have attached pictures for proof, as they'll likely try and respond back trying to defend but pictures don't lie. Believe the negative reviews of this place people, don't walk way RUN!
I enjoyed my stay. The staff was nice and friendly. The breakfast was great. The guest were friendly also. The over stay was great.

I stayed at this hotel for 12 nights while attending appointments at Mayo Clinic, and overall I had a comfortable stay. The location is excellent for Mayo patients, and the complimentary shuttle service made getting to and from my appointments easy and stress-free.
The room was comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and pillows that made it easy to get a good night’s sleep after long days of medical appointments. I also appreciated the bathroom toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, and lotion), as well as the complimentary drinking water, coffee, hot water station, and tea.
The complimentary breakfast exceeded my expectations. The hot menu changed daily and included eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and other breakfast items. There was also oatmeal with toppings, a waffle maker, cereal, juice, and soy milk (although I would have appreciated an unsweetened option).
The location is another major advantage. Within walking distance are Star Ocean Buffet, TJ Maxx, and, just across the street behind the hotel, Apache Mall and Trader Joe’s. It was very convenient to pick up groceries and meals without needing to drive.
The guest laundry was excellent and accepted credit cards, which made doing laundry during a longer stay very easy.
Housekeeping was generally good. Rooms are serviced every other day unless additional service is requested, and the staff did a nice job keeping the room clean.
The biggest disappointment during my stay was the Wi-Fi. It was unreliable in my room and repeatedly disconnected, forcing me to work from the lobby for several days. The front desk acknowledged that they were experiencing Wi-Fi issues, and at one point I spent 34 minutes on the phone with technical support, only to be told that the access point serving my room was offline. I felt that this should have been handled by the hotel rather than requiring a guest to troubleshoot the problem. If reliable internet is important to you, I would recommend requesting a room on the main floor near the pool, where the connection appeared to be much better.
I was also disappointed that the hot tub was closed for two days, and later the swimming pool was also unavailable. When it was open, it was often filled with children. An adults-only swim period would be a wonderful addition, especially considering how many Mayo Clinic patients stay at this hotel.
Despite those frustrations, two employees truly stood out.
Ernest, who looks after the grounds, was always cheerful, welcoming, and happy to chat. His positive attitude brightened my day more than once.
Odin at the front desk was equally outstanding. He kindly arranged a complimentary late checkout until 2:00 p.m. on my departure day, which made a stressful travel day much easier. That thoughtful gesture was greatly appreciated.
Looking back, I almost have to laugh at everything that happened during my stay. Nearly five days without reliable internet, moving to another room only to discover the shower curtain was missing, running out of shampoo and being advised to buy some at TJ Maxx, and finally an unfortunate mishap involving the security latch—it almost sounds like the script for a sitcom! None of those experiences overshadowed the kindness of the staff who genuinely cared, especially Ernest and Odin, and they are the reason I would happily stay here again.
Horrible service - mentioned 4 times for house keeping , the black lady and a white guy with nail polish - Both wrote it down. She doesn’t want to work here, has zero interest to meet customers / fire both. We stayed here for 4 days and no house keeping / RESULT = NO MORE STAYS and definitely NOT recommending to any of my business partners. Plus kids saw babies with NON SWIM wear entering the pool with regular diaper.
