This place is almost perfect. If it only had water dispensers not shared with a soda machine that would have been freaking awesome. If you come here long term bring your own filter. :)

THE WORST (NON)HOSPITALITY EXPERIENCE EVER! My husband and I traveled from California to Michigan for a family member's funeral service a week ago. It was already an emotional time for us and we just wanted to have a peaceful trip, as much as we possibly could.
Thursday, we checked into the hotel and the rooms were pretty nice. I went to the front desk a few times to ask about the pool but no one was there.
Friday, we went to the hotel's breakfast area which had a pretty good selection. I went by the front desk and again no one was there. We left afterwards to spend time with the family for the day. We came back later that night, (still no one at the front desk) we went to our room and noticed that the room was untouched; no housekeeping, trash was piling up, etc
We made sure that the "do not disturb" tag was not on the door-It wasn't. It was late so we showered and went to bed.
Saturday afternoon we were leaving and saw, again that there was no on at the front desk - we came back later after being with the family. The room was still untouched and by this time, we also needed towels. I called the front desk and no answer.
Sunday morning before heading to church, I called and finally reached someone - Autra, at the front desk. I stated that we needed towels and light housekeeping; we also had trash in the room and we had no service since we been there. She was nice, however told me they were short staffed, don't do housekeeping on Sundays, and only had one housekeeper on the premises that day but she would see what she could do. I asked that we at least get towels. Hours later I called back and Giana answered; I recapped the conversation I had with Autra regarding the towels, etc. Giana said that Saturday was a super busy day and they were short staffed and was going to check to see what happened with Autra and the room. Giana called me back about 10 minutes later and stated that Autra is new and that it's IHG policy to not clean rooms on the weekend. I said "Ok, I understand that but what about Friday? This is unacceptable because here it is Sunday and we have no towels and trash in the room".
My husband and I have traveled extensively; domestically and internationally and NEVER in my entire life have I heard this from ANYONE...Giana said they were short staffed and proceeeded to say, "YOU CAN BRING YOUR TRASH AND TOWELS TO THE FRONT COUNTER and PICK UP SOME FRESH TOWELS!" I said "WHAT", WHAT did you just say to me?" She tried to repeat it and then said that we will have some towels in the room.
Monday morning we were heading to the elevator to check out. I made it to the elevator while my husband trailed behind me, pushing that cart with our suitcases and other bags. As the elevator door opened, Autra (the 1st front desk attendant) and a guy dressed in a maintenance uniform were standing in the back of the elevator talking. I spoke and then held the door opened for my as he proceeded to push the cart into the elevator. The maintanence man walks to the front of the elevator door, places both hands on the cart as my husband is entering and proceeded to push the cart so he could get out - pushing my husband out as the door is closing...No "excuse me", no nothing! I'm getting pissed all over again while I am typing this. I was LIVID!! Autra and I both looked at each other and she says to me, while in disbelief "I thought he was going to help him with the cart. She later confirmed that he was an employee that worked in maintenance and that his name was Basil or something close to that. I WILL NEVER in my Life stay at this establishment or any other IHG property again. These rooms are too expensive for this type of service. I'd rather stay at a subpar hotel with great customer service than to say at a nice establishment with raggedy, rude, non-hospitable, and incompetent staffed employees. The Worse ever!!! You have got to do better!!!

Worst hotel experience ever! I stepped on nails coming out from the floor from a broken carpet and when i called front desk about it they said “okay… and i was like what okay?! Did you not understand what i said? I have kids 6y/o and a 1y/o running around here and there are nails coming out of the floor, not just one but 5nails! She said unfortunately we dont have a maintanance tonight but we will send one first thing in the morning. I asked if we can transfer to a different room and she said no because unfortunately they were full that night and she has no manager on site. Morning comes and no one came to fix it. I went to the front desk at around 12noon to ask when they are coming to fix it but they have no idea what i was talking about, apparently the girl that was in the front desk the night before did not tell them anything about it. NEVER coming back to this hotel! Just thankful it was me who stepped on it and was wearing a thin slippers on, if it would have been one of my kids, it would be a different story!!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel future guests deserve to know about our experience.
My husband and I recently traveled to Rochester Hills, Michigan, to visit family. After spending several days researching hotels within our budget, I chose Staybridge Suites Sterling Heights because of its beautiful online photos and consistently high ratings. I even prepaid for a non-refundable reservation to receive the discounted rate, confident that the positive reviews accurately reflected the property.
Unfortunately, our experience began going downhill at check-in.
As we were discussing calling our family to let them know we had arrived, my husband noticed a bright neon green sign at the front desk stating "No Visitors. No Parties. No Exceptions. Violators Will Be Evicted." Thinking surely this applied only to parties, he asked the front desk associate whether our family members could briefly stop by our room to visit.
Her answer was no.
She explained that because of problems the hotel had experienced with previous guests, no visitors whatsoever are permitted on the property unless they are registered guests. While the associate was polite and professional, the policy itself is unreasonable.
This is not a minor rule—it is a significant restriction that absolutely should be disclosed on the hotel's website before guests book, especially when reservations are prepaid and non-refundable. Had I known that my own family couldn't stop by for a short visit during our stay, I would have booked elsewhere without hesitation. Responsible guests should not be punished because of the poor behavior of others.
The hotel itself was a mixed experience. The lobby and other common areas were clean, attractive, and smelled fresh. Unfortunately, our room (418) was not.
Upon entering, we immediately noticed an odor that resembled burnt food mixed with pet dander. Every time we left the room and returned, my husband began sneezing repeatedly, suggesting there may have been lingering pet allergens and dust that housekeeping had failed to remove.
The bathroom was equally disappointing. There was visible mold in the shower that initially appeared to be something that could simply be cleaned. However, it became obvious that someone had merely caulked over the mold rather than properly removing it. The shower needs the old caulk removed, the mold professionally remediated, and the area re-caulked correctly—not cosmetically covered up.
For a hotel with ratings this high, I expected far better attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and transparency.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely not.
I can overlook cosmetic issues from time to time, but I cannot overlook a hotel that fails to disclose an unusually restrictive visitor policy while accepting non-refundable reservations. Combined with the condition of our room, it made for a disappointing stay that did not come close to matching the reputation this property has earned online.
My advice to anyone considering this hotel: Read the fine print carefully, ask about the visitor policy before you book, and if you plan to spend any time with local family or friends during your stay, consider another hotel.
