Stayed here with my husband and two kids Aug 15-18. Pros: Coffee, small shop. Attentive service at the desk. Small lobby with desk. Beds are comfortable. Most importantly, it’s clean. Cons: The room (130) was super humid. Everything is damp. They provided two towels for night one. Not enough. Had to request a hair dryer. Not one in the room.

My “Not So Good” Experience at Candlewood Suites Macomb. August 8–15, 2026 I booked Candlewood Suites Macomb through the IHG app while my family and I wait for our home to sell and our new home to close. I specifically reserved an accessible one-bedroom suite with two queen beds, a separate living area, and a kitchen. I received an email confirming that reservation. When we arrived on August 8, I was told I had been assigned a studio with two queen beds and no separate living area. I showed the front desk my confirmation and noticed that I had received an email at 4:30 PM confirming the one-bedroom, followed by another email at 5:35 PM showing that my reservation had been changed to a studio. I did not request or authorize this change, yet I was still charged the same rate. The studio was approximately $99/night, while the one-bedroom was approximately $139/night. The front desk told me they had to go by what was in their system and that I should speak with the manager on Monday. I was also told that if I wanted the one-bedroom, I would have to pay an additional $47 per night. I had my children with me, it was late, and we were already dealing with the stress of moving. I tried to find another hotel but decided to stay the night and contact IHG. The IHG representative confirmed that I had originally booked the one-bedroom and that the hotel had switched the room. Around 11 PM, the night agent contacted us. He looked into the situation, saw what had happened, apologized, and told me they could switch us back to the one-bedroom without the additional charge. He was compassionate and actually tried to resolve the problem. Since my children were already asleep, I agreed to move in the morning. The next morning, however, we waited hours for the room. At 8 AM I was told it should be ready at 10. At 10:30 I was told 11:30. At 12:30 I was given a key but told to wait until 1 PM. We finally moved into the room around 2 PM. My children and I spent the morning waiting around and didn't even shower; we simply brushed our teeth and waited to settle in. I had reserved another IHG hotel nearby, but after finally getting the correct room, I cancelled that reservation and the cancellation penalty was waived. I then extended my stay at Candlewood through the end of the month because of our home situation. On August 10, I spoke with the manager, Ryan and explained everything. I explained how stressful the situation had been and how it made me feel like I was being treated as though I was lying about my reservation. His response was, “You have your room now, so what do you want me to do?” I was honestly taken aback. I expected empathy and accountability from a hotel manager. I also explained that I was staying for more than 20 nights, that this was my first Candlewood Suites experience, and that my first night was in a lower-rate studio while I was charged the one-bedroom rate. He simply said, “Oh, okay. Let me see what I can do.” I do want to recognize the August 8 night agent and the Sunday day-shift employee. They both made efforts to help, and the night agent in particular showed genuine compassion. Another disappointment is that there has been no water available in the gym for the past week. When I asked the front desk Friday at 6 AM, I was told they don't provide water in the gym, but I could purchase a bottle for $2. Overall, I'm giving this experience 3 stars. The room itself is fine and some employees were helpful, but the reservation issue, lack of communication, long wait to move rooms, and especially the manager's response significantly impacted my stay. I'm staying primarily because I have my children with me and we're waiting for our home to close. Under different circumstances, I likely would have checked out. This was my first Candlewood Suites experience, and unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend this property. Better communication, accountability, and empathy would have made a big difference.

Excellent service. My GF is staying here currently and I wanted to send her some food and essentials. Cam was working the evening and he went above and beyond to find her dropped off order and personally deliver it to her room. I am impressed with the service that was provided.

Once a week housekeeping is insane. I’ve had to resort to leaving my things outside my room. They don’t supply a week worth of towels? I have to constantly call to have my room house kept. Was told they are “under staffed.” I do not recommend. Not to mention power went out in my room and they moved me to another to get the same treatment. Not to mention having to have your room key to run the power is insane. I would not stay here. *UPDATE* Been here for weeks. Several residents including myself have had to put their garbage and bedding outside out of their rooms. Returned after 3 days and absolutely no house keeping was done. I have to go to the front desk to get a key every time because it never seems to work. I can honestly say this is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Motel 6 has better customer service. Also *****NOT HERE BY CHOICE*****

Very nice hotel and very clean . It is a little difficult to find just off of Hill road. It is right behind the National Coney Island restaurant.
