  The stay was pleasant - comfortable room, great service from the front desk. But the person in charge of the breakfast put out ice cold cinnamon rolls. The one thing Holiday Inn Express is known for and they were disgusting, hard and cold. Very disappointing.

  We arrived at the Holiday Inn and the Staff were kind! We had mentioned it was our anniversary and they had congratulated us and made us feel welcomed. The room was clean and the breakfast was above average hotel breakfast. The location was great. We had a great time! Thank you!!

  Jonah at the front desk is EXCELLENT. Our room was all that we hoped for and more. Very happy with breakfast variety and heartiness. Hotel has some wear issues, rust in pool area, paint touchups, etc. These things are minor but noticeable. I gave 5 stars due to our satisfaction, but some guests are far more picky. Location we found to be ideal. We walked everywhere. We thought Nikki our cleaner did an excellent job. We left feeling so grateful we chose Holiday Inn Express (our friends recommended it from their stay previously)!!

  Positives: The location is excellent and very convenient for taking the ferry to Mackinac Island. Breakfast was good, with a decent selection of hot items. We also appreciated the nice cookie provided at check-in. The staff was generally friendly and pleasant. Areas for improvement: The hotel is charging a premium price, and when you charge a premium price, you should expect to be judged accordingly. Unfortunately, this property feels very basic and is in need of a significant refresh. We noticed loose bathroom tile, older carpeting, dated fixtures and décor, and other signs of wear. Compared with other Holiday Inn Express hotels we have stayed at, this one felt noticeably below standard. We stayed in Room 205, which is directly above the hotel's entrance. Every time the automatic entrance doors opened or closed, it created a noise that sounded—and at times felt—like someone was moving furniture beneath our room. As a result, my wife and I got almost no sleep the night before our visit to Mackinac Island. We did ask if we could move to another room, but we were told the hotel was full. We understand that there may not have been another room available, and that's not necessarily something the staff could control. However, when you're paying a premium price, a good night's sleep is a pretty basic expectation, and unfortunately, we did not get one. We were also disappointed that there was no offer of any compensation or other consideration given the circumstances. The second night, we all ended up sleeping with earplugs in addition to using a white-noise machine. That helped somewhat, but guests shouldn't have to resort to that simply to get a reasonable night's sleep. Overall, the location is a major positive, but given the price, we expected a significantly better-maintained property and, most importantly, a comfortable and quiet night's sleep.

  Our first night wasn't as good as our 2nd but still ended up being a great stay. I had a washcloth from a prior guest fall when closing the shower curtain. The water in the jacuzzi was cold the 1st night. The 2nd night the water was hot. The rest of the room was clean. The breakfast was excellent. I loved the biscuits and gravy. There was plenty of fresh fruit, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, juice, muffins, omelets, cinnamon rolls... We would and probably will stay here again. There's also a free shuttle back and forth to the ferry for the island.
