Beds were comfy. Room was small. No room to sit at the desk. Shuttle service is a great benefit. Internet speeds sucks as with all ihg properties.
Big issue with breakfast. Room included breakfast. But servers decided to charge a tip to my room without authorization. This is theft. Manager was notified but this really isn't acceptable.
Really ruins trust that needs to be there when you leave your stuff in a hotel room.

When we first arrived, we asked to check in to the two joined rooms we booked literally months ago. Even though we requested attached rooms on our booking, the front desk staff was very confused and disorganized and it appears our rooms had been assigned serperately. I will give them credit for accommodating us and reassigning us to joined rooms, but the whole debacle took over 20 minutes while we just stood there waiting.
One of our joined rooms stank - horribly. It was not cigarettes or weed, it must have been some bodily fluid smell on the carpet or something. This hotel does allow dogs so maybe it was from someone's dog. We didn't bother requesting a new room since it was such a pain getting joined rooms in the first place, and we were mainly only coming back to the hotel to sleep anyway.
Speaking of the rooms, they were extremely tiny and cramped. There was barely room to walk around the beds. I stayed in a Marriot hotel not too long ago and the room was very nice and spacious, so the contrast was jolting to say the least.
The final straw was the breakfast. Many hotels provide complementary coffee and buffet breakfast with your stay. This hotel charged $16 a person for the same buffet breakfast that many hotels provide at no additional charge. However, they do advertise that 2 kids under 11 can eat for free if one adult pays the $16. We needed to get to a confrence in the morning so a quick buffet breakfast was what we needed. I paid the $16 and the kids started to get their food. We were seated and eating when a waiter came over and informed me that for the kids to eat free, we needed to ask the front desk for vouchers, which was literally a short walk across the room, and we had our room cards with us, showing we clearly were staying at the hotel. And on top of that, the "kids eat free" is only from a short list of food options on the restaurant breakfast menu. None of this had been disclosed on their sign saying kids eat free, so I felt scammed. We were in a hurry and the kids had already gotten their buffet food, so I just paid the money. To top it off, my family member who was not eating with us came to meet us and the waiter asked if she was eating. She said no, since we were going to leave shortly. Seeing the coffee cup in her hand, the waiter felt the need to say that she could fill up her coffee cup "this time" but next time he would need to charge her for the coffee.
All together, this was one of the worst hotels I have stayed at in my life, ever. And it was not cheap. It's not even in that nice of an area. It is in walking distance of the downtown, which is nice, but there are homeless people sleeping in the park you need to walk through to get there.

Highly recommend because of superior customer service and location! We checked out early and forgot our small cooler in the fridge. I called shortly after checking out. They graciously retrieved it from our room and stored it for me in a refrigerator until we could pick it up on our way back home from our trip! Way to go Holiday Inn-Downtown Grand Rapids!! Although the room we had was really noisy with the interstate running right by, I would stay here again just because of the great lost and found service! Thank you!!

I thought it was a great place to stay. The location really can't be beat in that price range. Also, they have a free shuttle. A tip for the driver isn't required, but I thought our driver was super nice and friendly (so I obviously gave him a good one.)
The rooms were nice and clean, though not overly large. There was a small fridge, a Keurig, and a microwave. My son said the water pressure wasn't great, but I didn't have a problem.
They have free parking there, so you don't have to deal with a garage or valet parking. The pool was on the small side, but it was never crowded. Also, there was a hot tub and showers.
There's a restaurant inside and a bar as well.
I didn't eat at the restaurant, but it looked like standard American fare. Also, it was dog friendly so we got to see a lot of cute pups in the lobby.

Pros: Shuttle service to new amphitheater was easy to book and easy to use, driver was a little rushed getting back to the hotel.
Resturant on site was convenient, but the "well done" burgers were pink inside and pre-made patties. But the kids ate free as an upside (if you're staying at hotel).
Pet friendly, our dog was quiet and well behaved in the room. The pet potty spot is tiny and along a busy road, which makes it distracting for some pups. They do provide bags and trash can, unfortunately not everyone cleans up after themselves.
Staff were kind from who we interacted with.
Cons: 2 queen bedroom was absolutely tiny! Very little walking room in front of the beds or in entry way.
On the TV there were no kids channels unless you want to pay $25 to rent a movie. Also didn't see any login spot for netflix/hulu/disney which seems the norm these days.
Hotel is right by the highway and you hear every vehicle, all night.
Also, poor design with the bathroom light. The switch is right by the entry door and not inside the bathroom, so if you have to use the facilities at night, everyone is woken up by the light.
