We had THE BEST experience at Hotel Indigo in Downtown Detroit. When we checked in, we were asked why we were visiting. I said that it was our daughter’s birthday and our kids’ first visit to Detroit and first Tiger’s game. We are IHG members, so she said they were happy and able to upgrade our room for the night. Then, later in the evening, they sent up a card and some goodies for the kids. WOW! We will definitely be staying here again. Also, the valets were so friendly and helpful. Entire staff top notch, including from desk and The Trolley restaurant servers. Highly recommend this hotel for your visit to Detroit.

The hotel itself was a good experience. Check-in was seamless, and the cleaning staff was diligent and did a great job throughout our stay.
Unfortunately, the valet operation was a completely different story and was easily the most frustrating part of staying here. The entire valet staff seemed either disorganized or simply uninterested in doing their jobs. Multiple times, we saw valet attendants sitting in guests’ cars rather than helping people who were actively waiting to have their cars parked or retrieved. At one point, there were three valet employees sitting together in one vehicle while guests waited.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. There seemed to be a consistent pattern of employees avoiding work, ignoring guests who needed assistance, and allowing cars and people to back up unnecessarily. It created frustration for guests and made what should be a basic hotel service unnecessarily difficult.
The contrast is especially noticeable because the rest of the hotel staff seems to be doing their jobs well. Management really needs to address the valet operation, because right now it reflects very poorly on an otherwise pleasant hotel experience.

Very very good hotel.
Desk staff were welcoming, pleasant, cheerful, and very helpful.
Room was very clean with all the regular amenities. Nothing special but they did have a Keurig and 6 k-cups (4 regular and 2 decaf Maxwell House). Refrigerator was clean and cold. And the microwave worked well.
The beds were big and very comfortable. If you don’t like soft beds, you might have a problem, but I loved them.
Cleaning staff did a good job. And they replaced the used k-cups daily.
Free full breakfast was served pretty fast and the food was really good. Pretty extensive menu.
Full bar with food service but I didn’t use that.
Parking is valet for $40 per night. But there’s a parking lot right behind the hotel that’s $34/night with in and out privileges.
There’s a big deli with really good hot foods, baked goods (try the cheesecake), and convenience store items right across the street from the hotel. Washington street has tons of quality restaurants and bars and it’s just a short walk (2 or 3 blocks?) to the stadium area.
The area felt very safe even in the middle of downtown.
I’d recommend this place for sure.

BED BUGS ON THE 8TH FLOOR—and somehow that wasn’t even the only nightmare!!! I tried to resolve this directly with the hotel every single day: in person, by phone, and through Hotel Indigo. Eventually, I received a voicemail from Jazmin pretty sure, one of the night managers working on 7/3/26, saying she wanted to “handle it in-house.” Okay, cool, I understand why a hotel might want to quietly address something as serious and disgusting as bedbugs. The only problem? Every time I called back, Jasmin just happened to have the day off, and apparently no other person in the entire building was capable of helping me. So, since they chose not to handle it “in-house,” I’m handling it publicly. Below is the letter I sent detailing our stay in this filthy, overheated hellhole. I’m posting it so no one else unknowingly books here.. and in the sincere hope that someone eventually bulldozes the place. Also, stop posting fake 5 star reviews Hotel Indigo!
Dear Hotel Indigo,
I am writing to formally request a full refund for my recent stay at the Hotel Indigo Detroit due to multiple serious health, safety, and maintenance issues that made the hotel uninhabitable.
Our experience began on the very first night when we discovered that the bed sheets in our room were visibly dirty, with hair and debris throughout the bed. We contacted the front desk to request clean sheets. Rather than housekeeping replacing them, the front desk employee (night manager on 7/1/26) brought us a stack of sheets, handed them to us, and walked away, leaving us to strip and remake the bed ourselves.
Once we removed the dirty sheets, we discovered what appeared to be evidence of bedbugs beneath them. The mattress pad contained numerous small reddish-brown bugs, black spotting, and what appeared to be insect shell fragments. We immediately contacted the front desk again. The same night manager came to inspect the bed, agreed there was an issue, and moved us to another room. What was most concerning was the complete lack of urgency or apology, as though this was not an unusual occurrence.
The second room initially appeared to resolve the problem, but the following night we woke up drenched in sweat because the room had reached approximately 90 degrees. The thermostat had completely failed and the heating system was stuck blasting hot air at full capacity. The front desk confirmed the thermostat was broken and moved us to another room.
The next day, we were told the HVAC issue had been fixed, so we returned to our assigned room. Unfortunately, on the third night, the exact same problem occurred again. The thermostat once again failed, the heat blasted continuously, and the room became unbearably hot.
When we went to the front desk, there was already a line of other guests complaining. The employee informed us that the hotel was completely sold out and that she could not move us to another room, relocate us to another hotel, or issue any refund. We were effectively forced to spend the night in a room with a malfunctioning heating system despite having already experienced this issue once before.
Between the unsanitary conditions upon arrival, what appeared to be bedbugs in the original room, having to change our own bedding, being moved multiple times, repeated HVAC failures, and ultimately being left with no solution, this stay fell dramatically below the standards that should be expected from the Hotel Indigo brand.
This experience caused significant stress, disrupted our sleep for multiple nights, and raised serious concerns about guest safety and room maintenance. At no point were we offered any meaningful apology, compensation, or alternative accommodations.
Given the severity of these issues, I am requesting a full refund for our stay. If a refund cannot be processed, I would expect a comparable compensation in the form of a complimentary stay at another Hotel Indigo location, as I have no intention of returning to the Detroit property after this experience.
I look forward to your prompt response and hope this matter can be resolved appropriately.

Our experience at Hotel Indigo Detroit North – Troy was extremely disappointing. We booked this hotel specifically because we wanted to relax and use the pool during our stay.
We arrived around 8:00 PM expecting to check into our room, but we weren't able to access our room until almost 11:00 PM because we were told it had not yet been cleaned. A nearly three-hour wait to check in is completely unacceptable, especially when no proactive communication or meaningful solution was provided. No compensation was initially offered—we had to ask if anything could be done before we were given a single complimentary entrée at the hotel restaurant.
Unfortunately, the restaurant experience was just as disappointing. By the time we were seated, the restaurant was closing in about 20 minutes. Our food was served cold, it took approximately 20 minutes just to receive our drinks, one of our drinks never arrived, and our bill was incorrect.
Because our room wasn't ready until almost 11:00 PM, the pool had already closed. The primary reason we booked this hotel was to enjoy the pool during our stay, but because of the hotel's delay, we never had the opportunity to use it.
To make matters even worse, I have sent two follow-up emails regarding this experience, and neither has received a response. No one has reached out to acknowledge our concerns, apologize, or attempt to resolve the situation. The complete lack of follow-up has only added to our frustration and made us feel that our experience and feedback were not valued.
Overall, the lack of communication, poor customer service, failure to resolve the issues during our stay, and complete lack of response afterward made this a very frustrating experience. We expected much better from Hotel Indigo and left feeling that our concerns were not taken seriously. This experience fell far below the level of service we expected and would make us hesitant to stay at another Hotel Indigo property in the future.
