  Great location, friendly staff and my bed was made all 3 days. My only complaint is apparently there is a $5 a night amenity fee. To their credit they removed it but it seems a little sneaky when it doesn't show up on my booking or my receipt. This was a business trip and I booked it through Egencia so it would be nice if the hotel would communicate this to the booking site my company uses. Again no complaints at all except the surprise fee.

  We stayed here last minute to get out of the hazardous air blanketing Michigan while on vacation. This is the third holiday inn express we’ve stayed at this summer. Each in a different Michigan city. This Alpena location has been the worst and doesn’t meet the standard. We were happy to get a room, because the hotel was nearly fully booked. Check in was smooth/easy. Housekeeping needs work. Our room was for the most part clean, but I question whether our linens had actually been cleaned, because I found hair on the pillow cases. When they changed the towels, they only gave us one clean bath towel!! Breakfast was standard offerings, but somehow came across as low quality coupled with poor presentation. The little lobby store robs you blind. They charged $8 for Cup Noodle Ramen that is 59¢ at the grocery store. The pool is very small and cold. Location was great and easy walking distance to places. I don’t foresee recommending this location to anyone in the future.

  Our stay here completely turned around what had been a rough start to our vacation. After arriving at an Airbnb that had no power or running water due to an outage, we were scrambling to find another place to stay. Chris, the manager, went above and beyond by getting us checked in early as soon as a room became available. That simple act of kindness made a stressful situation so much easier. The rest of our stay was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was well-stocked each morning, housekeeping did a great job, and the hotel amenities were exactly what we needed. The location is another huge plus as it's just a short walk to downtown Alpena's restaurants and shops, making it easy to park the car and explore on foot. Thank you to Chris and the entire staff for the outstanding hospitality. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again the next time we're in Alpena.

  Good convenient location in alpena, walking distance to some good restaurants. Rooms are okay, nothing special. Wife found stains on bedding that were likely menstrual blood, showers have no water pressure. Biggest problem was with our reservation. Called front desk to inquire about a 3 night stay. Was told they had a king bed for 162/night, and double queen facing the river for 172/night. Figured I'd pay ten bucks a night for the view, confirmed no fewer than three times that price was per night for the stay, and reserve the room. Drive up from ann arbor, check in at the front desk and get a physical receipt and am shocked to see the reservation was 3 nights for 800 dollars. The room was 172 for the first night and 270 a night for the other nights. Told the person the price i was quoted and there wasn't anything they could do, that I'd have to talk to the manager the next morning. When I talked to the manager the next morning, they basically shrugged their shoulders and said they were sorry they didn't mention the price for the other nights. To be fair, they offered to take 50 dollars a night off, but since that's still 50 dollars a night more than I was quoted, had to cancel the rest of the reservation and scrambled to find a room elsewhere.
