I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my family’s treatment during our recent stay at your hotel.
Upon arrival, we noticed a cat lying in the main entranceway with food and water nearby, indicating it was being cared for on the property. Later that afternoon, around 5:00 p.m., while my daughter and I were at the pool, the same cat entered the area, chasing and attempting to kill birds, causing a disturbance throughout the space.
I spoke with the front desk and was told the cat belonged to the hotel owner and that the hotel was pet-friendly. I explained I have no issue with pets or a pet-friendly policy, but my concern was the owner’s cat freely roaming unattended in guest areas, being chaotic especially since my daughter has a documented cat allergy. I was then told nothing would be done since the cat belonged to the owner.
Shortly after, our conversation ended I went into the fitness center. Five minutes later, the front desk employee informed me that the manager wanted to speak to me again. During that conversation I was told that if I was unhappy, we could be refunded and leave. I explained that leaving was not practical as we were already checked in and departing the next morning. I also felt this response was retaliatory after I mentioned sharing my experience. Throughout the interaction, I remained calm and respectful. At no time did I become aggressive, hostile, or confrontational, I was simply firm and passionate in expressing my concerns.
Later that night, around 10:19 p.m., we were awakened by local police officers who informed us the hotel manager had requested we be removed from the property. We were shocked and embarrassed, as we had not been disruptive in any way. My daughter and I were forced to leave late at night without time to make proper arrangements, which was extremely distressing and humiliating.
I believe this situation was handled unprofessionally and without compassion. Our only request was that a legitimate concern regarding a health issue and the owner’s cat be acknowledged and addressed.
I respectfully request a review of this incident, including the manager’s actions and the decision to involve law enforcement, as well as clarification of your pet policies in common areas and appropriate compensation for the distress and disruption caused.
Sincerely,
Vincent George
