Room was hot and damp and smelled really bad. AC wasn't working very well. Mattress was very uncomfortable, it felt old. You could feel and hear springs. Carpets throughout the hotel looked filthy. I'm sure it was once a beautiful grand hotel but now it feels like an old, neglected, convention hotel. Food from the restaurant was pretty good and bartenders were friendly. Did not like the dining area. It was right in front of the registration desk. People dragging their luggage by your table while you're trying to enjoy your food. Not a fan of the location. Will stay closer to Main Street next visit. Certainly will not stay at the Brown.

A recent dinner splurge at the hotel was with mixed results. The server (Daniel) was attentive, without being annoying, and the food was quite good. However, the piano music in the lobby/main room/bar was EXTREMELY loud, so much so that it quashed any thought of a quiet, intimate dinner with conversation. Completely trashed the vibe. When we asked the host about this, she replied that it had to be that loud (what???). It really marred the evening. Also, the Brown Hotel bar created the Ali Smash, a flavorful drink of rye whiskey and pomegranate juice. Yet, the bar didn't seem to know anything about it and had no pomegranate juice. Disappointing.

I did not stay at the hotel last evening. We attended a candlelight concert. We did eat at the lobby restaurant. Service was good. Food selection, in my opinion, was limited. The reason I’m writing this review is because the lobby and the venue room, the Chrystal ballroom were very warm. We were told that the unit was not running properly. The Chrystal ballroom also looked worn. The ceiling is pealing in several areas. I wonder why the company would let such a beautiful landmark look this way. There were bulbs out as well in the chandelier. The seats were uncomfortable as well. I hate writing this as I am a lifelong Louisville resident. I’m very proud of our city. Seeing this masterpiece of a landmark look this way is very disappointing.

We had dinner after the candlelight orchestra at the Lobby Bar inside the Brown Hotel. The service was close to terrible. We sat down at 7:40 and paid the bill at 9:15.
Had to ask for water. Plates weren't removed after appetizers nor dinner. The salt in the salt shaker was clumped and had actually turned a greenish color at the top.
On the bright side the hot brown was very good. I just wish the tomatoes would have been sliced instead of quartered and they were stingy with the cheese sauce.
French onion soup was mediocre. The peaches and cream cheese cake was very tasty but didn't have much peach flavor.

Great place to stay if you're 70 years old or older. That way you can take your hearing aides out at night and actually get some restful sleep. Otherwise you're going to be awake all night with the street noise.
Being older also offers the luxury of always being cold. Well...not at the Brown. You'll be nice and comfortable in your oven of a room. Even with the AC turned all the down it was about 78 in our room the entire weekend.
On a positive note, dinner was fantastic. So if you're younger than 70, just make dinner reservations and stay somewhere else.
