Title: 1 Star – Worst Staybridge Suites Ever: Undisclosed Renovations, Chemical Fumes & Serious Asthma Attack for My Wife As IHG Rewards Platinum members (#) and with my son holding Diamond Elite status, we have trusted Staybridge Suites for years. Our four-night reservation at Staybridge Suites from March 12–16, 2026 turned into a nightmare that has destroyed our confidence in the IHG brand. Upon arrival we discovered the entire property was undergoing major undisclosed renovations ongoing since December 2025. No warning appeared in our reservation confirmation or any
pre-arrival communication, despite staff later admitting notification emails were “supposed to” be sent. We were immediately hit with overwhelming adhesive, chemical, and paint fumes throughout the building. Carpet and walls were visibly dirty and dusty. The front entrance was closed; guests were directed to a side door. The “front desk” was a makeshift setup inside a regular guest room. Normal Staybridge services were unavailable: no on-site breakfast (redirected to the neighboring Holiday Inn Express), unusable fitness center, and inconsistent housekeeping. Our three suites had the same strong fumes, dust on surfaces, and poor cleanliness. The most serious issue was the direct impact on my wife’s health. The undisclosed dust and chemical/paint fumes triggered a serious exacerbation within hours. She suffered severe shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing, requiring increased medication, oral steroids, and nebulizer treatment. Her primary care provider issued a formal letter explicitly confirming that her asthma “is easily triggered by exposure to environmental irritants, specifically dust and chemical/paint fumes. I filed a detailed formal complaint with IHG Guest Relations on March 17, 2026 (Case #10472488664), including timestamped photos and recent guest reviews showing the identical pattern. This was deceptive business practices combined with preventable health harm. We expected brand standards and transparency. Instead, we received undisclosed hazardous conditions that endangered my wife’s health. Requested Resolution: Avoid Staybridge Suites Wichita until renovations are complete and the property meets normal brand standards. The risk to anyone with asthma or chemical sensitivities is real and completely preventable. We hope IHG resolves this fairly and restores our confidence in the brand. All documentation available upon request.

Title: Thank you for the response — still no resolution after 3+ weeks
Dear Mr. Tilson,
Thank you for your reply. (IHG Case #10472488664),
Unfortunately, a general apology and internal “review” does not address the core issues:
Major undisclosed renovations causing pervasive chemical/paint fumes and dust
The serious asthma exacerbation my wife suffered (confirmed by her doctor’s letter dated April 1, 2026)
The complete lack of Staybridge services we paid for.
IHG corporate has already stated they will not intervene and has referred us back to the hotel. As of today, we have received no refund, no compensation, and no meaningful resolution.
We have now filed a Small Claims case in Sedgwick County, Kansas (the hotel’s home county) seeking a full refund of the $1,253.15 paid, the value of 200,000 IHG Rewards points, and additional damages.
We remain open to a fair and prompt resolution directly with the hotel before the court hearing. Please let me know if the management team is willing to discuss this.
Thank you,
Ziggy
