  BEWARE if you need to cancel a reservation at the IHG property in Michigan City, IN I have been a loyal IHG customer for several years and hold Diamond Elite status. I've also stayed at this location multiple times over the years, along with several coworkers. The hotel itself is a typical IHG property, and my past stays have been uneventful. My concern I've recently learned, is with how cancellation situations are handled. I contacted (called) the hotel's staff on the day of my reservation to cancel. I was informed that I would not be charged. I made my calls early morning of, followed by a 2nd phone call to ensure the cancelation was confirmed and to avoid a charge. However, my credit card was later billed for the full stay, with only a partial credit issued afterward, leaving me responsible for one night's charge plus taxes and fees. NO NOTICE from staff on this policy during my phone call. A conversation with management unfortunately wouldn't stand behind their customer on this and make an exception due to the charge without notice from their staff. In the past, I have had same-day business-related cancellations at other IHG properties, and those locations handled the situation with flexibility and empathy. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. Based on my interaction, this appears to be a management policy that is enforced regardless of the circumstances or customer loyalty status. I would encourage IHG travelers to be aware of this location's policy, especially if there are any changes in your plans. I had hoped for a better customer experience when handling this situation especially for a Diamond Member vs quoting policy. I'd recommend staff training to ensure their customers are aware there will be a charge.

  Very disappointed with this hotel. I was scheduled to stay there from Thursday the 20th to Monday the 24th. Unfortunately due to a family emergency I had to leave Saturday morning. I was out before 11am and I know there were sold out Sat night because the front desk told someone on the phone while I was waiting to talk to them. I asked hi. About checking out early and he said I would need to talk to my CC company. They called the hotel and sent and email and the hotel is refusing to refund

  Good hotel but not For these prices. Not really feasible. I’m a diamond elite Member who is here often and this is consistently the most Expensive IHG anywhere
