This is a relatively new hotel, and the lobby and common areas are clean, bright, and nicely designed. The style is simple and modern without feeling overly basic.
The room was spacious enough, and although the décor was fairly plain, it was practical and well equipped. My room had an armchair, a movable small table that made it convenient to work on a laptop while sitting comfortably, a refrigerator, and a safe. The staff were also very friendly. The hotel sometimes seemed a little understaffed, but everyone I interacted with was helpful, welcoming, and consistently greeted guests with a smile.
Breakfast was a standard American hotel breakfast, but the selection was fairly complete and changed from day to day. Items such as cheese omelets, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and sausage gravy rotated during my stay. It was perfectly adequate for this type of hotel.
The fitness room was fairly basic, but that is normal for a hotel in this category. There is also a small indoor pool. It is probably more suitable for children playing in the water than for anyone wanting to swim laps, but again, it is consistent with what I would expect at this price level.
I paid approximately $114 per night, which I considered a normal and reasonable price for the UIUC area. Overall, the hotel facilities and room quality were appropriate for the local price range.
However, there were several significant drawbacks.
First, the Wi-Fi was poor. The connection was slow and frequently disconnected, and I sometimes had to use my phone’s hotspot instead. Unfortunately, cellular reception in the area was not especially strong either, although it was at least more stable than the hotel Wi-Fi.
Second, the hotel is in a relatively isolated location. Champaign-Urbana is small, so it only takes around 10 minutes to drive to downtown Champaign or the university area. However, I still think staying downtown or closer to campus would be more convenient because you could walk to restaurants and other places. From this hotel, you need to drive almost everywhere. Each drive is short, but finding parking near downtown or campus can be frustrating and time-consuming.
Third, there appears to be a truck parking area nearby, and some large trucks also park in or near the hotel parking lot. The noise can be substantial. One morning at around 5:00 a.m., I was abruptly awakened by a large truck parked directly below my window. Fortunately, the noise stopped after about 10 minutes, and I was able to fall asleep again, but it was still very disruptive.
Finally, the soundproofing between rooms is not very good. A family with a baby was staying in the room next to mine, and I could clearly hear the baby crying during the night. This noticeably affected my sleep.
Overall, the hotel is clean, relatively new, reasonably priced, and staffed by friendly people. It is a decent option if you have a car and do not mind driving everywhere. However, the unreliable Wi-Fi, outside truck noise, weak soundproofing, and isolated location make it harder for me to recommend over a similarly priced hotel closer to downtown Champaign or the UIUC campus.
