Switched bad rooms. Fire broke in the building. Didn’t finish stay. No refund. Run around service.
As someone in hospitality and part of the national concierge association and the Chicago hotel association I was disappointed by our stay.
I have heard rumors in the past about this location from my network, vendors and residents. This past Sunday my partner and I didn’t feel like staying at our new home during a big repair and booked a night here. We were switched from one room where the toilet was not working and the bathtub seemed to be missing pieces to put it kindly. Front desk was accommodating and moved us to another room. That room’s AC did not work. The machine was dead. Before we communicated with front desk again, a fire broke loose and we were told to take a stairway and doorway that ultimately was in direct line with where they were also fanning the fumes through. Suffocating and not to mention an older lady had to stay back on our floor because she was unable to take the stairs, depending on only an elevator. The security guy told her to just take a seat and hang back. Once outside, at that point we were over it and wanted a refund, and reception told us a manager would call us. Never received a call. We followed up for an update during the week. Receptionist responded with “oh that manager is never here”. I will mark that the night receptionist was nice but unfortunately overall service just comes down to one star because at this point it feels like disception. I have half a mind to report.
Oh also a lot of rooms seemed to be left messy for turn down the next day. This was in the maze part of the hotel where rooms had big wall windows you can look through. So we didn’t have a great impression when we first got to the hotel. Seems like low staffing.
The hotel is fine for what you pay for if you get a good deal. The last night I was there, I had no hot water. Being the last night it wasn’t the biggest deal, but the woman at the front desk said we‘d get a discount off the last night for the inconvenience. I was told to call a number and they’d approve the discount. That ended up being several phone calls of people saying they could not help me, the woman I checked out with was less then pleasant when I called them about having issues. I called the hotel customer service multiple times about the situation. Unfortunately I did not receive the discount and it’s been about two weeks since. I do not plan to stay here again due to the unprofessional lack of help I received from the hotel over the phone and the customer service.

am writing this review to warn future travelers—especially business travelers—about a severe breach of guest safety, privacy, and staff misconduct at the Holiday Inn & Suites Chicago North Shore in Skokie.Earlier in the day, I had a dispute with the front desk staff after being assigned an incredibly dirty room, which I fully documented on video. Later that night at 9:30 PM, just two hours after checking into a new room, the exact same male front desk employee, accompanied by a second male staff member, weaponized an electronic master keycard to unlock and breach my room unannounced and without my permission.I was completely undressed inside my locked room when these two men entered. Instead of immediately backing out upon realizing the room was occupied and that I was exposed, both men remained inside my room to aggressively confront me regarding a restaurant bill. Using a standard billing matter to cross physical boundaries and corner a guest late at night is an unacceptable tactic of intimidation and retaliation. The Skokie Police Department had to be called to the scene, and an official police report was filed. Alarmingly, the staff members actively lied to the responding police officers, claiming they never entered my room. However, they subsequently verbally confessed the entire unauthorized entry to my corporate team lead and offered an apology.Due to the total failure of guest safety protocols, the lack of camera accountability, and targeted staff harassment, my company's travel team had to immediately evacuate and relocate me to a different hotel property for my own physical and psychological safety. If you value your privacy, your physical security, and the safety of your belongings, do not stay at this property. Management and staff have demonstrated a complete willingness to abuse master key access to harass guests.
The Positive:
The location is very convenient, with shopping areas and restaurants within walking distance. There is ample parking, as well as an onsite restaurant and bar, which makes the stay even more convenient. The hotel is also less than 25 minutes from O’Hare International Airport.
The exterior of the hotel entrance is beautifully laid out, and the reception area is equally inviting when you first walk in, and welcoming staff. There's a restaurant and bar on site. The room is well equipped with all the amenities you would want, especially for a longer stay.
The Negative:
There is only one elevator, and it could use some improvement, particularly during busy times. The carpet in the room is quite dark, which makes the room feel somewhat dated. Updating the carpet could give the room a fresher and more modern appearance. The A/C runs a bit loud, the bathtub does need changing, and the water does take a while to warm up.
Overall:
Overall, this is a convenient hotel with a great location, beautiful common areas, and well-equipped rooms. With a few updates, especially to the elevator and room carpeting, it could be an even better experience.

Room has an indoor curtain that leads to main lobby and pool. I check in at 3:30PM on Tuesday August 4th and message the front desk that the curtain will not go down. And everyone can see through my window. Was told that my message was passed onto maintenance. I go eat dinner and grab some things for my stay and come back at 8:30 and nothing has changed. I call the front desk to which then I'm told that they will send someone over to fix. Another hour goes by and I call the front desk again, and am told again that someone will be down to fix. ANOTHER 30 MINUTES GO BY, and no one has come yet. So I go to the front desk and am told that maintenance is gone for the day and there's nothing that can be done. Keep in mind there are bright lights in the middle of the hotel that are shining directly into my room because the curtain will not close. After 4 notifications to them, absolutely nothing will be done. Not even a room change, or discount.
Awful customer service, awful hotel, and way overpriced for what it is. In a terrible location and would only recommend this hotel if you are within walking distance to what you need. Leaving the hotel is terrible.
0/10 would not recommend as this is completely unacceptable and should not have even gotten to this point had they accommodated and not lied and said that they would send someone when they couldn't.
