  Very bad experience with the front desk. I saw many good reviews for this hotel, so I want to be clear that my issue is not with the hotel itself, but with the front desk manager working the night of Sept 5. We’ve stayed at other Holiday Inn locations where late-night check-in has never been an issue, especially when we informed them in advance. We called ahead and explained that we were delayed due to heavy Chicago traffic and fireworks. During our first call, he never told us that our reservation would be canceled if we didn’t arrive by 11 PM. When we called again a couple of hours later regarding our reservation just to inform again, he put us on hold for about 5 minutes in the middle of the conversation. He then told us we had to arrive by 11 PM or our reservation would be canceled and was very rude and strict about it and was not even ready to listen to our explanation. We rushed through traffic and arrived around 11:10 PM because we were worried about losing our reservation. Later, we saw him allowing other guests to check in around midnight. If there is an 11 PM rule, it should be clearly communicated in advance and applied equally to everyone. Being the front desk manager, I expected much better communication and professionalism. The hotel itself was fine, but the way he handled the situation made our experience unnecessarily stressful. I hope management looks into this.

  Immaculately clean. I mean IMMACULATE. The breakfast was great as well! Lots of different food options. The location is close to a lot of shopping and near the highway for easy access. And the staff was friendly and helpful. Only downside I found was that I had forgotten my toothbrush and toothpaste, and I had to pay for it from the little marketplace thing, I guess they don't do complimentary stuff there. Not a huge deal though considering everything else was fantastic. Highly recommend!

  Absolutely enjoyed my stay! Highly recommend as it is quiet, accomodating, and close to food & shopping! Not to mention, close to airport. I was there for a few days to meet a friend who stayed at the Marriott next door for work. This is actually more fairly priced and you can just walk next door should you need to meet up friends at the bar which is what I did. & Let me just say the ladies at the front desk are sweet and amazing! Also the breakfast was amazing with the pancake machine being totally awesome! 5 Stars!

  We had a wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Portage! Our family stayed in two rooms, and while we were disappointed that adjoining rooms weren’t available, both rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and very well maintained. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and we really appreciated the ample outlets and USB-A charging ports—such a small thing, but incredibly convenient when traveling with a family and multiple devices! The pool was fantastic, and the outdoor amenities were a huge hit with the kids. They loved the XL Jenga, XL chess, and cornhole, and there was even a putting green. We were a little disappointed to learn that the hotel no longer provides clubs and balls for the putting green, perhaps due to insurance concerns, but it’s still a nice feature to have. Breakfast was also good, and my kids especially enjoyed the sausage and cinnamon rolls. There was plenty to choose from, and it was a great way to start the day. One thing that really stood out was how well cared for the grounds are. It’s obvious that someone takes a lot of pride in the property. There is a beautifully maintained vegetable garden right by the pool. While it isn’t accessible to guests, it’s still lovely to see and enjoy from the surrounding area. There’s also an impressive rose garden in one of the corners of the property that was absolutely beautiful. Those little touches really made the hotel feel cared for and welcoming. The staff was consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming. My only other suggestion would be to provide a few more towels—two washcloths for a room that sleeps four (and with three of us staying in the room) wasn’t quite enough. Overall, this was a clean, comfortable, family-friendly hotel with great amenities, beautiful grounds, and wonderful staff. We really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend!

  Great hotel. Our friend Matt recommended this location to us as he stays here often for work and I see why. The staff knew him by name when he walked in. Very clean rooms, helpful staff, and a great breakfast that filled the bellies of our family ranging from 1.5-30 years old. Putting green, cornhole/bags, chess, and an outdoor pool are outside as well. We have had some very sketchy hotel stays in the past and we won't do that again, this hotel is worth every penny, especially for the peace with your family!
