- JJJon JaspersonJul 30, 20265.0Visiting the Trail of Hope was a sobering experience. The memorial does an excellent job of sharing the stories of the Saints who were forced to leave Nauvoo in the early spring, making their hardships feel much more real. Standing on the banks of the Mississippi, it was hard to imagine crossing such a wide river on ice while wondering if it would hold beneath you. The experience gave me a deeper appreciation for the faith, courage, and sacrifice of those who made that journey.
