It was our anniversary, and unfortunately the experience did not live up to expectations. I was checked in by Harrison and also spoke with Drew about the occasion, yet our anniversary was never acknowledged until checkout and only after I mentioned it for the third time. By then, they finally offered an upgrade the following day, but I didn’t want the inconvenience of repacking and unpacking during our stay.
The room reservation card also stated two complimentary can waters per day, which never happened. Parking was listed at $94 per night, yet there was a parking lot several steps away for 30.00 and we used that without any problem .The hotel ultimately removed a total of $81 in amenity fees from the bill after I addressed the issues again at checkout, which I appreciated, but it still did not make up for the overall experience.
To make matters worse, the shower in room 1507 was broken. The handheld shower could not be lowered, and water leaked from the hose connection the entire time.
This is especially disappointing because I was originally considering staying at the Langham, Ritz-Carlton, or Four Seasons, all of which were similarly priced. I truly wish I had trusted my first instinct. While this hotel may be aesthetically “cute,” it did not deliver the luxury experience we’re accustomed to from past stays at other hotels. Unfortunately, I probably would not stay here again.

Stayed at Viceroy Chicago recently and left honestly disappointed.
To be fair, the location is excellent — close to everything in Chicago — and the hotel does have a nice bar atmosphere and a visually attractive rooftop. If your goal is mainly going out and being in the middle of the city scene, you may enjoy that aspect.
However, if you are expecting actual rest, relaxation, comfort, or a true luxury hotel experience, this was the complete opposite.
The noise levels were excessive everywhere — not only from outside traffic, but also inside the hotel itself. Between street noise, internal noise, doors, hallways, and overall lack of sound insulation, it was almost impossible to properly relax or sleep. At certain moments it genuinely felt like traffic was driving through the room.
On top of that, valet took approximately 45 minutes to bring my car, which completely disrupted my plans and wasted a significant amount of time.
What made the experience worse was management’s handling of the situation. Instead of showing genuine concern, the response felt dismissive and transactional, as if a complimentary bottle of wine was supposed to compensate for the inconvenience and poor experience.
Luxury hospitality is not just aesthetics, trendy interiors, or a rooftop. It’s comfort, attention to detail, and how guests are treated when issues arise. Unfortunately, this stay failed on all of those aspects.
Very disappointing considering the rates charged.

Viceroy Chicago is a modern luxury hotel in the Gold Coast area of Chicago, known for its stylish design, lake views, and strong “boutique luxury” vibe.
Short best review:
A very chic, Instagram-worthy hotel with beautiful rooms, great service, and one of the best locations in Chicago for exploring shopping, dining, and Lake Michigan. It feels upscale but not overly formal—more trendy luxury than old-school classic.
Why people like it:
Excellent location near Magnificent Mile and Gold Coast
Modern, elegant rooms with floor-to-ceiling city or lake views
Rooftop pool and lounge with skyline vibes
Clean, quiet, and comfortable with strong guest service ratings
Real guest vibe:
Many guests describe it as “stylish, clean, and perfectly located,” with very helpful staff and spacious, comfortable rooms.
Things to know:
Rooftop and public spaces can feel small compared to bigger luxury hotels
Pricing is high (you’re paying for design + location)
Some rooms facing busy streets can have light noise
Simple travel guide tip:
Stay here if you want a modern luxury experience in Chicago with easy access to shopping, nightlife, and lakefront walks. It’s best for couples, solo luxury stays, or short city trips.
I am extremely disappointed with my experience at the Viceroy Chicago. What was meant to be a special day for my daughter turned into an uncomfortable and frustrating situation.
We were taking casual photos when a staff member (Ana) informed us there would be a fee to take pictures upstairs. At the same time, she stated we could take photos elsewhere on the property and even offered suggestions. This made the policy feel inconsistent, unclear, and arbitrarily enforced.
The situation escalated when Harrison Delbert approached us in a dismissive and unprofessional manner. When I calmly requested to speak with upper management, he refused to provide any information or have anyone contact me. Instead, I was redirected to another manager, Cesar, who did not resolve anything. This felt like an intentional attempt to avoid proper escalation and accountability.
I also encountered a female manager who refused to provide her name when asked, which was extremely unprofessional and concerning.
To make matters worse, security was called even after we had already left the area, which was unnecessary and humiliating. During this interaction, I felt singled out, and even other guests appeared uncomfortable with how the situation was handled.
The valet service was also rude and unhelpful, which added to an already negative experience.
Not once during this entire interaction did anyone offer an apology or attempt to de-escalate the situation. That lack of accountability stands out the most. I also reached out directly afterward and received no meaningful response. A property at this level should prioritize professionalism, transparency, and respect, none of which were demonstrated here.
I would not recommend this property based on how this situation was handled.
***Thank you for the response. I do appreciate the acknowledgment that the situation fell below your hotel’s standards. However, I do want to clarify that I was never personally contacted by you regarding this matter, despite how upsetting the experience was for my daughter and me during her prom weekend.
I still remain disappointed by the handling of the situation, particularly the behavior of certain staff members and the lack of a direct apology or meaningful resolution after we left the hotel early.
Stayed here a week or so ago for a date night with my wife. We wanted to check it out because we stayed at their property in California and really liked it. Unfortunately this was a let down. The deluxe king room was small (except bathroom). We had old worn towels that should have been removed from service. We went up to the restaurant upstairs on 18, Pandan. The hostess told us that it was a 2hr wait, but there might be something at the bar, seats probably 8 or so people. She ducked inside then came back and said there were 2 seats at the bar. We walked in and no more then 25-30% of the tables were taken. We were there about 45min and during that time it never got more than 40% -50% full. So not sure why she would say it was a 2hr wait. Anyways this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel its slightly better than average so maybe 3.5 star.
Update 4/28: I missed a call a few days after I posted the review from a gentleman at the hotel, I believe his name was Harrison, but dont quote me on that. Anyways I called back but he was not available so I left a message with a young lady for him. I never heard back. I dont add this to be a pain, but rather to point out that things like this is what separates the 3s from the 5s in ratings. The GM, Patrick, did reply online to my review and I appreciate that. We just really enjoyed our stay at another Viceroy and wanted this one to be as enjoyable, but unfortunately it didnt work out that way.
