The lobby of the Intercontinental has a handful of chairs, lots of people milling about with nowhere to sit or stand, and very outdated decor. The grand staircase is not grand, and the Starbucks and Michael Jordan restaurant on either side of the lobby makes it feel like an airport lobby - not an upscale hotel that costs $500 a night. Not charming like a boutique hotel either. We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds and they gave us ONE bath towel. Had to call downstairs for more. The AC did not work, we had to ask for an engineer. Then the next day, the toilet overflowed. This is not a luxury hotel, and for that price, one can stay in much nicer hotels. I think this hotel is primarily for weddings or conferences that charge low group rates. Not worth it.

Intercontinental Chicago is a beautiful hotel with multiple very sophisticated ballrooms and Mike Jordan steakhouse that serves delicious meals. The breakfast buffet was excellent with an outstanding service.
Our room was a little disappointing. The AC vent located on the ceiling of a small hallway was constantly leaking that resulted in a soaking wet floor which we had to jump over every time we went to the bathroom.
The mini bar menu had a warning in small print saying that any item removed from its place for more than 30 seconds would be automatically charged to our account with a 22% service fee plus taxes.
The bathroom didn't have a fen so every time after even a very short shower everything becomes moist and you can't see anything in the mirror for a next 30 minutes or so.
Other than that we enjoyed our Chicago visit and the service was always great.

Unfortunately, what started as a promising stay ended as a one-star experience.
I will start with the positives: our welcome was wonderful. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and offered assistance with our luggage. We also really enjoyed the pool.
There were several issues I initially planned to overlook. There were peanuts/debris left on the floor of our room, which made me question how thoroughly it had been cleaned. The bathtub was also extremely slippery both my sister and I slipped and I genuinely think anti-slip measures need to be added before someone is seriously injured because while I have a big bruise someone could break an arm. The hotel layout and signage were also confusing. While trying to navigate the hotel, we repeatedly ended up near executive offices and struggled to figure out how to get where we needed to go.
The experience that ultimately changed my opinion of the entire stay was the valet service. I paid approximately $88 per night for valet parking, expecting the convenience that comes with that price.
When we were leaving, I had my luggage, my sister’s luggage, and my son’s luggage with me. I specifically asked the bell desk how to get to my car and whether there was a way to reach it from inside the hotel. I was told no and directed to go outside, down to the lower level, and into the garage.
That information was incorrect. There was an elevator accessible from the hotel that went to the garage level.
Instead, I ended up hauling a family’s worth of luggage outside in extremely hot hazardous(from the smoke) weather with my child and sister, trying to navigate downtown Chicago and find our vehicle. We ended up across the street and had to cross back with all of our belongings. When I called the hotel and explained the situation including that I had all of this luggage with me I was essentially told to walk back upstairs and take the elevator from the lobby. No one offered to assist us or provide a practical solution after their staff had given me incorrect directions in the first place.
I was frustrated to the point of nearly being in tears. For $88 per night in valet fees at a luxury hotel, I expect staff to know how guests can access their vehicles and to provide accurate directions. I also would have appreciated an offer to assist with our luggage, especially after explaining the situation.
I was initially willing to overlook the cleanliness issue, the dangerously slippery bathtub, and the confusing layout. However, the way our departure was handled brought all of those issues into focus. The welcome was excellent, but unfortunately, the way we were treated and assisted when leaving left a lasting negative impression.

Stayed here for a couple of nights to have a "sister's weekend" visiting with my sister. The room was exceptionally clean and staff was super friendly at check-in and check-out. We ordered the cake and it was exceptional. This location is super central to everything walking so, it was a great location to stay.
Low points were:
1) There was certainly not enough staff manning the restaurant for breakfast. We ordered from the menu rather than doing the buffet. The food was cold on arrival but, they were accommodating to make it right.
2) The pool was overcrowded with kids and "gross". We briefly used the sauna but, were not able to get the lockers to work. They definitely need replacement or major repairs.
All-in-all, overall it was an excellent stay and I would likely stay here again.

I stayed here over Fourth of July weekend with my two teenage daughters. We were offered a room upgrade which we initially did not take. After seeing the double bed, my daughters decided it was too small to share, so we called the front desk and they allowed us to switch to the larger room, which was great! Unfortunately the larger suite had some water/AC/smell issues. Luckily they sent maintenance out, and the engineer was very thorough and helpful. He determined we should probably be in a different room due to the dampness in the room. The management was able to move us to a third room, which, as was the case for Goldilocks, was just right! My daughters and I had a very comfortable stay, and the manager gave us a generous credit toward hotel dining because of the trouble with the room.
The location of this hotel cannot be beat. There are so many transportation, sightseeing, and restaurant options extremely close by. The pool was very very cool, though was quite crowded when we went. Understandably so! The fitness center looked clean and well appointed. We ordered in room dining and it was delicious!! Generous portions and very tasty food.
Overall, very happy with our experience. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to be in the middle of it all, with easy access to the outskirts of the city (like the Chicago Bandits, the Chicago Stars, O'Hare, etc.).
