This place is fantastic! The room was, as expected, exactly as described! It featured everything it said it did, the view (when we requested a picture of our specific room) looked exactly like what was shown, and the hotel comes complete with a small outdoor pool open to the air, sitting a few floors above street level. The staff is amazing, always very kind. It has a small rec room with a pool and foosball table, as well as some Arcade1Up machines. The breakfast restaurant, open 6 to 8 has fantastic choices including fruit bowls, more standard pancake-bacon-egg type breakfasts, and a few local favorites. It has some fun events that happen every morning, including ukulele lessons and learning the hula dance. Best of all, it’s incredibly close to the beach, sitting right behind the front line of similarly sized hotels that are just footsteps away from the sand. It’s also close to some nearby ABC stores, good for snacks for the room, sunscreen and bug products, as well as a generous assortment of touristy gifts and memorabilia to bring back home as well as some fun snacks like dried mangos and different local macadamia nut products. Shorefyre is also just a short walk away, featuring fantastic fresh veggies, fruits, and meats/seafood, and they have reasonably priced surfboard rentals and lessons as well, with a discount for any UH Manoa students and a temporary discount for Hawaii residents. The hotel is also close to many great food trucks - there’s always some place good to go. This is a fantastic place to stay, but of course in order to get the most out of it, you’ll have to be willing to travel a bit for further entertainment. All in all, a great place to stay!

Very old hotel. Needs a facelift badly. We stayed here because we thought they were serving a Hawaiian buffet. Nope. It’s only a hot continental buffet. Eggs, sausage, cereal, small pastries, etc. We wish we stayed somewhere else and bought breakfast. The hotel lobby is not air conditioned and the cheaply framed pictures of the other hotels in the chain were a sign this was not a luxurious hotel but a bargain hotel. The room smelled like mildew, there were stains on the lampshade, and everything is old. The AC did not work very well despite running continuously. The sliding door to the balcony was permanently locked to avoid people falling and dying. The carpet is a disgusting old brown color. If you want a clean and modern hotel don’t pick this one. We regret booking it. Don’t let the buffet fool you!

This place is trash. Beware!! They charge you a $400 fee for "amenities" for things like towels. Despite what you may read online the breakfast is not included in your stay and so you have to pay $20 more a morning for there crappy continental breakfast. I booked a king bed suite and instead they put me and my wife in a twin bed room.....on our honeymoon. There is also only like 40 parking spots in the garage for the whole hotel (more like 48 since the hotel manager has a reserved spot with a big old sign to make themselves feel important plus another reserved spot for I am assuming staff) so good luck finding parking here. If you do it's $45 a night.

Very expensive hotel for what it’s! Guest are charged a resort fee, it’s not a resort , it just had a tiny Pool with few lounge chairs on the second floor , nothing else !! The room we got it was on the nineth floor , very dated , nasty (mold) bathroom , moldy vent as well, midget bathtub ( don’t intend to ofend little ppl) TV , didn’t work . We were looking for the fridge at the usual hotel places , wasn’t found . It’s ridiculously located under the sink . Next to the bathroom A free breakfast is provided , but not even close to the pics posted by the hotel . Those are the Ones from the food served at the restaurant downstairs. Of course , you pay for !! We picked an Ocean view Room Which is just a partíal One From the Room . The lobby, very old soiled chairs , awful carpet here , rooms and hallways , too. It needs , urgently A RENOVATION??? I won’t recommend It to anybody , except of you are looking for a good location . It’s one block from the beach and close to everything which is the case of lots of hotels in Oahu !

I rated location as 5 stars because for the typical tourist, it's right where all the "touristy" stuff is. However, for my personal preference as a frequent visitor, I don't want to be in all the crazy busy area where every other tourist considers "Hawaii" when it comes to Oahu. That being said, the place where I own was rented except for the second half of the time I'm here this time, but my dates weren't flexible. So, I had to find another place to stay. I found this place online and found it to be reasonably priced for the season/time of year, and it's very close to Kuhio beach - again very busy with tourists, but so are many of the beaches in Waikiki in general. The hotel is walkable to the beach (about 3 minutes at a normal pace), it's close to the International Market Place and a variety of restaurants from upscale to local hole-in-the-wall type places. See my review of Honolulu Taco - think Korean BBQ meets TexMex. Anyway, back to the hotel. The 4 stars on the room is only because the furniture and carpeting are showing signs of wear and are not updated. HOWEVER, it's Hawaii. So, you're not spending a lot of time in there anyway AND the rooms are very clean. We have a city view room and since the hotel is downtown, it's very close to the apartment/condo complex across from it. You can hear street noise, but it's downtown. So, once should not expect it to be completely silent overnight. All in all, when I need a place that's not paid for already, I would stay here again. The absolute hidden gem is the I'lima Cafe off the main lobby of the hotel! You must eat here. The food is excellent and the 2 Aunties who work here, Erna and Lee, are exceptional. I will say, I'm an early riser. So, I was in the cafe for breakfast shortly after it opened at 6am. There were 2 people other than myself in there. Service was efficient and fast. However, my daughter slept in and didn't go down until later (9am). It was very crowded at that point and there was a wait list to be seated. However, just because the crowd multiplied, DOES NOT mean more wait staff magically appears. The two Aunties still work just as efficiently as when I was there almost 3 hours earlier, but now they're waiting on more people. So, if you're not an early riser, be patient. You are on vacation and you will receive service that is full of that Aloha spirit so relax into the laid-back island version of your self and do not criticize the people who are doing their best to serve you. The Loco Moco was, honestly, the best I've had on the island. My daughter said the pancakes were excellent as well. The prices are stellar. HOWEVER, I made the reservation on the hotel's website and it came with complimentary breakfast. That may have been a promotional thing. So, look for that when booking to see if it's still available. However, even if you had to pay for breakfast, the pricing is good. As a matter of fact, I would consider walking or driving down here from my place to eat breakfast if I was going out rather than cooking in because anything remotely close to Hilton Hawaiian Village or the Ilikai is OUTRAGEOUS. So, this is an amazing value for the amount of food you receive and the quality of that food... and service with Aloha which I would rate at 10 stars if there was a place to rate the cafe. Mahalo.
