  My husband and I arrived to Sensei as the first stop in our Hawaiian honeymoon. As New Yorkers, the trip was long, and as newlyweds, it was deeply emotional. Upon arrival, we were struck by the cleanliness, beauty, and serenity of the property. Our rooms were quiet, and the overall location was nestled inside beautifully lush mountains. The Spa and Activities teams helped us in coordinating a fun but relaxing itinerary, including relaxation treatments, sunset sails, and horseback riding. The nearby beach resort offered up a fun repose from the adult world into a more family-friendly universe! There, we enjoyed meals and views. The true challenge however came on departure day — inclement weather tore into the island and our L’anai air flight could ultimately not take off. We were devastated because our next stop at Kona was already organized and paid for. More crucially, emotions were running high given the significance of this holiday for us. Weather can’t be controlled, but an establishment’s reaction to unforeseen distress can be. We would be remiss to not sing management’s praises, Edith and Christian, talked and helped us through a truly anxious time, going as far as to call our next stop to communicate on our behalf. I will forever be grateful our love story’s beginning included them as our allies. I’m a sentimental girl, with quite a bit of attachment alloted into this holiday, and I only ever felt that was honored and celebrated. To other couples, I hope you’ll consider the Sensei as a foreground for your love stories! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

  Very disappointing experience and poor management. We returned to find our hotel room door left open, with valuable jewelry and important personal documents inside. The hotel staff told us that housekeeping had forgotten to close the door, although we did not personally verify this through security footage. What made it worse was that the staff didn’t even apologize or seem concerned. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

  This is a one-of-a-kind resort that allows you to escape from your work, busy life and all the BS. This resort is on the central mountain of Lanai and it has a Japanese style Zen dynamic. The resort is beautiful and it has a lot of art collection, which my wife and I really enjoyed. We stayed here two nights and enjoyed every single minute here.

  Wow. Just wow. If you’re reading this, stay at Sensei. It’s worth it. It feels like one of the warmest hugs you’ve ever needed. We adored the stay. Everything was perfect: The room. The grounds. The level of care from staff. The services. The activities and classes. We felt so cared for and seen. And we left with a profound appreciation. I can’t wait to come back. Special remarks for Lisa, Arielle, Ben, Robyn, Stacy, Liran, and Danielle (and everyone else at the property I may be missing - all of you were incred!!).

  Third stay at Sensei Lanai in five months, which says it all. The people make this place. Everyone here is warm and helpful without exception. We’ll be back.
