  Unfortunately, our experience at The Whaler was disappointing. The biggest issue was the lack of communication at check-in. We were given a few cards and mainly told which one was for towels, that we needed to return the towel card or potentially be charged, and where the shopping area was. That was pretty much it. No one really explained the resort amenities, gym, housekeeping policy, or the other benefits included with our stay. We only found out later, by actually reading through the paperwork ourselves, that the cards could be used for discounts on snorkeling and other activities. We also saw that the resort has other facilities, but we were never told about them or where to find them. We shouldn’t have to spend 30 minutes reading through paperwork in our room just to figure out what we have access to as guests. The housekeeping policy was also surprising. We were told that the room is only cleaned for free after four days, and if you want housekeeping before then, you have to specifically request it and pay extra. We’ve stayed at many hotels and resorts and have never experienced this particular setup. If that’s the property’s policy, that’s fine, but we feel it should be clearly explained at check-in. The towel situation on our last night was especially frustrating. We had already used one towel card and asked for two towels. We were questioned about the other card and ultimately only given one towel, even after explaining that it was our last night and we were checking out the next day. Compared with our experiences at resorts in Waikiki, the whole process felt unnecessarily difficult. I understand that Maui and Lahaina have been through an incredibly difficult time, and we truly sympathize with the local community. However, as paying guests, we still expected to feel welcomed and to receive clear information about the resort and what was included with our stay. Unfortunately, from check-in through checkout, we never really felt welcomed here. The resort may have a lot to offer, but our experience was not what we expected and we would have appreciated much better communication and hospitality.

  The Whaler is one of my favorite resorts on the island. It's in a great area and is central to tons of stuff to do. It's nice for relaxing and great to bring your kids with!

  Just, WOW! Just steps from the ocean fronted by a great beach with snorkeling to see a variety of fish and sea turtles. The condominiums have kitchens which drastically reduces one's food expenses. Every room has a nice view of the ocean but some better than others. The staff is courteous, professional, and willing to go the extra mile! We have stayed here over and over for years and we always get a warm Aloha when we return!

  The Whalers Resort is an excellent place for a nice beach vacation. The rooms are great with fantastic ocean views. The grounds and facilities are immaculate. It is located next door to the Whalers Village with lots of shopping and restaurants to choose from. You honestly don't need to drive anywhere if you choose not to. The beach is beautiful and right next to the lava rocks that people jump off of into the water. We saw turtles swimming down the beach.
