  1 STAR — THE WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND DISGRACEFUL MANAGEMENT. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. I have traveled extensively, and I have never experienced such appalling treatment from a hotel. What happened at this Holiday Inn in Kona was not simply poor housekeeping. It was a complete failure of basic hospitality, professionalism, and management accountability. TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITHOUT HOUSEKEEPING. After my room was left uncleaned on the first day, I personally went to the front desk the following morning and specifically requested housekeeping. The staff apologized and PROMISED that my room would be cleaned. When I returned at 5:30 PM, NOTHING had been done. The garbage was still there. No fresh towels. No cleaning whatsoever. Even worse, housekeeping reportedly claimed they HAD cleaned my room. That was plainly inconsistent with reality. I showed the front desk photographic evidence. THEN THE FRONT DESK THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE ON ME — THREE TIMES. Yes, you read that correctly. Instead of fixing their own failure, the front desk repeatedly told me they would call the police and have me removed from the hotel. For what? For asking for the clean room I PAID FOR? I was not asking for a luxury upgrade or special treatment. I was asking for BASIC HOUSEKEEPING that the hotel had explicitly promised. I even called the local police non-emergency line myself. The dispatcher confirmed that no call from the hotel had been received at that time. The front desk refused to let me speak directly with the manager. The hotel refused to provide a clean room. I was effectively left with no solution. AND WHERE WAS THE MANAGEMENT? NOWHERE. I contacted IHG Guest Relations repeatedly, spent hours on the phone, and even spoke with a supervisor. I was explicitly assured that hotel management would contact me the following morning. THEY NEVER DID. Not before checkout. Not afterward. Not even more than TWO WEEKS later. No explanation. No accountability. No compensation. Not even the courtesy of a response. THIS IS NOT JUST BAD SERVICE. THIS IS A HOTEL THAT FAILED ITS GUEST AND THEN REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I paid for a hotel room, yet I was forced to spend my vacation dealing with the hotel’s failures, repeated statements about police involvement, and management’s complete lack of response. The most infuriating part is that the hotel made the mistakes, while I was the one who suffered every consequence. I have photographs documenting the room’s condition and have filed a formal complaint with IHG. If this is how this Holiday Inn treats paying guests when something goes wrong, travelers deserve to know. SAVE YOUR MONEY. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE. I WOULD NEVER RETURN TO THIS PROPERTY.

  Great hotel for a family stay! Full breakfast included, and pool, hot tub and parking on site. Walking distance from everything in the Kailua-Kona historic district and easy access to the highway for doing things on the rest of the island. The staff was exceptionally helpful. I highly recommend this hotel for families with kids.

  For the price and location, this hotel offers good value. We arrived early and our room wasn’t ready yet, so it was really convenient that they had a luggage storage room where we could leave our bags and explore the area in the meantime. Mari was very helpful, friendly, and accommodating, which made for a great first impression. The room was clean and spacious. It also had a small kitchenette area with a microwave, mini fridge, and sink, which was convenient during our stay. Amenities include a pool, gym, and washer and dryer. Nothing fancy, but definitely nice to have, especially for a longer stay. The complimentary breakfast was decent, with hot food options that changed daily, so there was some variety each morning. One thing to keep in mind is that parking is $25 per day, which adds to the overall cost.
