I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience so other guests—especially families and those with health concerns—can make an informed decision.
I traveled to Columbus with my 8-year-old son for a graduation and stayed in Room 408. Because I have a compromised immune system, I always disinfect hotel rooms upon arrival. While spraying Lysol around the room, I discovered multiple insects along the carpet near the corner of the room. I immediately told my son to stay away from that area and went downstairs to notify the front desk.
I tried to handle the situation discreetly because I didn’t want to create a scene or embarrass the hotel. Instead of housekeeping being sent to my room or being offered another room, I was handed a vacuum and expected to clean the issue myself. As a paying guest, I found that completely unacceptable.
I was told the hotel was fully booked, so changing rooms wasn’t an option. I was left with no reasonable alternative but to remain in the room despite my concerns. After my stay, I developed red bumps on my skin, making the experience even more upsetting.
What disappointed me the most wasn’t just the condition of the room—it was how the situation was handled. No guest should ever be expected to clean up a room after reporting a sanitation concern. Hospitality means taking ownership of problems, not handing guests a vacuum.
The one bright spot during my stay was Tara. She treated me with kindness, compassion, and professionalism when I felt overwhelmed as a mother trying to protect my child. She listened, comforted me, and genuinely cared. She deserves recognition because she was the only employee who made me feel heard.
Unfortunately, after attempting to resolve this matter directly with hotel management, I was informed that they consider the matter “resolved,” despite my continued concerns. That response was incredibly disappointing from Jodi Sears.
I hope the hotel takes sanitation, guest safety, and employee training more seriously moving forward. I cannot recommend this property based on my experience.
UPDATED Response to your reply:
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, an apology without meaningful accountability does not resolve what occurred during my stay.
While you state that my concerns have been shared with your team, I was never provided a full refund or a resolution that reflected the seriousness of the situation. I reported the issue immediately, yet I was handed a vacuum instead of receiving proper assistance. In your private correspondence, management acknowledged that this was not an appropriate response.
Since my stay, I have also filed a complaint with the Department of Health because I believe the sanitation concerns warrant an independent review.
I do appreciate your recognition of Tara. She was the only employee who showed genuine compassion, professionalism, and empathy throughout this experience, and she deserves to be recognized for that.
I sincerely hope ownership takes a hard look at how guest concerns are handled at this property. Every guest deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported when reporting a sanitation issue. Based on my experience, I left feeling that protecting the hotel’s position was prioritized over making things right for a customer. I hope future guests receive the level of care, cleanliness, and accountability that my son and I did not.
