IHG quoted me $232/night, booked me at $940/night instead, and now refuses to honor the rate—even though they acknowledge the recorded call confirming it.
Before I start, I should say that I have been a loyal IHG guest for many years. I have used IHG hotels personally, for companies I have worked for, and for my own company that I started several years ago. This situation has seriously changed my opinion of how IHG treats its guests.
Last year, I booked an IHG hotel in Atlanta for Dragon Con, a convention that brings roughly 80,000 people into downtown Atlanta. As anyone who attends Dragon Con knows, hotel rooms become extremely difficult and expensive to find as the convention gets closer.
At some point, the IHG hotel I booked was sold and became a Marriott property. How did I find out that my reservation apparently no longer existed? Not from IHG. Another Dragon Con attendee discovered the situation and posted about it on Facebook to warn everyone else. We are now a little over a week from the convention, and IHG still has not contacted me to acknowledge that my original reservation no longer exists.
After finding out, I contacted IHG myself and spent hours navigating their phone system and being transferred around trying to find someone who could actually help.
Eventually, I reached an IHG Guest Relations representative who offered a solution. They could move me to the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Atlanta. My original reservation was approximately $195/night, and the representative told me the replacement reservation would be adjusted to $232/night.
That seemed reasonable. It was slightly more than I originally agreed to pay, but given the circumstances, I was grateful that IHG had found a solution.
Then I checked the IHG app.
Instead of $232/night, I had been booked at roughly $940 PER NIGHT.
For Friday and Saturday, the hotel's publicly listed rates are reaching approximately $1,700 per night. For a Holiday Inn Express. For comparison, the Hilton—one of Dragon Con's primary host hotels—was recently showing rooms around $457/night.
I immediately called IHG back and explained what happened. More importantly, I have a recording of the original call where the IHG representative confirms the $232 rate.
I have now spent the better part of a week going back and forth with IHG. They have acknowledged that the call was recorded and that the rate was discussed. Their response now is essentially that the hotel is unwilling to honor the rate their own Guest Relations representative quoted me, so there is nothing they can do.
That is absolutely insane customer "no-service."
IHG's failure to notify guests that their reservations disappeared was bad enough. Quoting me a replacement rate, booking me at nearly four times that amount, and then refusing to honor the quoted rate—even when there is a recording confirming it—is completely unacceptable.
I have been loyal to IHG for years and have directed both personal and business travel toward their hotels. IHG, do better. You have lost a loyal customer.
And to other IHG customers: if Guest Relations quotes you a rate over the phone, apparently you shouldn't assume IHG will actually honor it—even when the call is recorded.
I was invited to the Capitol for Public Health Day at the Capitol in Atlanta with my health policy classmates. Out of the whole group, only the four of us stayed at this hotel.
The hotel itself is great, it's located right in the heart of downtown, making it super easy to find places to eat (and convenience stores are nearby, too). The only downside was parking, which was tough. Luckily, I wasn't the one driving.
A funny thing happened during check-in: the person who booked my room didn't know my legal name, so they used the name shown on this account instead. Fortunately, the receptionist was very understanding and friendly. After I explained the mix-up and showed my driver's license, they checked me in without any hassle.
Unfortunately, despite the great location, friendly service, and comfortable room, I found a very-tiny-small cockroach in my room. I’m completely terrified of roaches, so I just can’t bring myself to give this place a 5-star rating.

The hotel location was a big plus. We walked to the State Farm arena for event. But they only did valet parking for $40 and it took valet 10 to 15 to bring car from wherever they park your car. And the room and bathroom was very small and the air conditioner would not stop running we had to be either cold or hot. The amenities in the room were not working properly. The refrigerator was cool not cold at all my dessert went bad. The microwave turned on but that’s all it did it did not heat or warm food. Had to go downstairs in the middle of the night to use the staff microwave. The staff was nice but they need to do better with knowing what is working inside their rooms.

Don't book here.
I made a reservation at this location for DragonCon a full year in advance. Months later, without authorization or notice, they cancelled my reservation. The only reason I found out is because I logged into the app, expecting to review my check-in time, just to see that there was no trace of my booking — even after entering my confirmation number.
After several attempts to call the front desk, I was given the following reasons as to why my reservation was cancelled:
-That I cancelled it (I did not)
-That the hotel was closed/no longer in operation
-That the hotel was undergoing rennovations
-That a "previous hotel manager" made a "series of errors" and that my reservation had been affected
-That there was a "system error"
Obviously, only one of those things could be true. Either way, I am now without a room — even after spending a combined 10+ hours on the phone with customer service, guest relations, and the front desk.
The hotel manager, who I've been told is Ameena, was supposed to contact me on multiple occasions to sort out the issue — she never did. IHG corporate was supposed to follow up with me after I contacted them. They never did.
The only accomodations I've been offered were at Hotel Indigo, where I'd have to pay nearly double the nightly rate BEFORE taxes, and another Holiday Inn out in Buckhead — milles away from the DragonCon event locations.
My case has been "escalated" several times. I've been lied to several times. And now I'm still without a hotel for a 5-day event in downtown Atlanta. No word from IHG for a week at this point, and I started this process nearly 3 weeks ago.
Currently filing paperwork for arbitration/legal action against the hotel to MAYBE have a room returned to me, or compensation for the absolute ineptitude of the hotel staff and guest relations that have stranded me — despite my consistent and unearned kindness towards every person I've spoken to thus far.
IHG, if you're reading this (and I know you read these), I just want my room back. Your hotel staff, that won't even pick up the phone for your help line, refuses to help me. Arbitration will cost your business thousands more in fees than it would to just find me a room at another hotel. It won't cost me a cent, but you'vve already wasted hours of my patience. Please, don't make me waste more.
I had the best experience ever here. Stayed here too many times. Rooms are great. Very well priced. Customer service is even better from almost all of them. They are all amazing but Desmond aka Dante, the night shift person is just the best part of my experience staying here. He goes an extra mile with everything. Maybe multiple miles. Getting a five start service at a 3 star hotel is him and hence I like to keep coming back here over staying at Hilton or Marriott brand. He deserves to be a manager if he is not already. On the other hand, Jarvis the night dude, worst employee there. Hopefully don’t run into him. Zero customer service. Don’t want to get into details so he doesn’t get fired as I don’t like anyone getting fired but man guy loves lying. When one employee says yes they will be able to accomodate because there are plenty rooms and then he says there are no rooms available an hour after is one of the many services he fails. Best hotel in downtown.
