  Very pleased with our stay at the Old Key West resort. Every cast member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The entire resort was exceptionally clean and well thought out. The room was very clean and cleaned daily. It had everything we needed and felt like staying in a condo instead of a hotel room, which gave it a much more welcoming and home-like feel. The food available on site was excellent. The main pool and recreation areas near the hospitality house were enjoyable and also extremely clean and neat. Towels for use at the pool were generously stocked and available in several locations around the pool. Transportation around the resort and to the parks and Disney springs was very easy to navigate and buses run every few minutes, there was never more than a 10 minute wait. We would definitely stay at this resort again!

  We had a nice stay at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, but overall, I’m not sure we would choose it again over other resorts. One of the highlights was dinner at Olivia’s Café. We really enjoyed our meal, and the atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. The resort itself also has a lovely, peaceful setting that gives it a very different feel from some of the busier Disney resorts. That said, we were disappointed with some of the resort amenities and overall convenience. The quick-service options felt very limited, and the beverage station was frequently congested, which made getting drinks more frustrating than it should have been. The main areas could also feel extremely crowded at times. We were fortunate to have a room in a good location, but some of the buildings seemed incredibly far from the main amenities. Depending on where you’re staying, it could mean a significant walk just to get to food, drinks, or other resort services. Ultimately, our biggest issue was the value. For the price we paid, we expected the amenities and overall experience to feel more elevated. Instead, some aspects felt more comparable to what we’ve experienced at a Value Resort. Old Key West is beautiful and has some definite highlights, especially Olivia’s Café and the relaxing atmosphere.

  Rooms are going through renovation, the resort is nice and in a good location (close to Disney Springs and Animal Kingdom). The one bedroom villas are perfect for families, they even had a pack-n-play ready in our room for our son. Full kitchen and washer/dryer room as well. Only downside is no room service, to make up for this they allow grocery order delivery. AC works great and the room quality is fine, but it's clear the decor and main structure is very old (over 15 years). Appliances have been updated though and as long as you're on the first floor it's fine. I feel bad for families coming back from the park and they have to walk up two flights of stairs (outside) to get to their room. Bell service is spotty so if you have a lot of bags be ready to wait a while.

  My favorite place I’ve stayed at on WDW property. My family and I love the fact that OKW is a quiet, peaceful resort situated on a golf course. The pool and pool bar is great. This resort has something for the whole family (all 9 of us). The restaurant on property, Olivia’s, is truly the most underrated restaurant in Disney. By far the best breakfast on property. We also love how spacious the rooms are and how many guests the villas can accommodate. We recently stayed in the 3 bedroom villa which sleeps 12. It allows all of us to vacation under one roof. The only downside of this resort is the distance to the parks; however, we have used the bus systems on all of our trips and never had a single issue. They are always running, and we are still able to get to and from the parks relatively quickly. OKW is truly a hidden gem. I’m already looking forward to my next visit there.

  Not Returning to This Resort We have stayed at a number of Disney resorts and generally have had very good experiences, but this vastly differed from the stellar standard we have become accustomed to. Unfortunately, Old Key West was simply not what we expected from a Disney resort, and we would not return. The primary positive was the room. It was spacious, as expected for any full kitchen suite. The resort was also quiet, which was something we specifically sought after coming from a very busy few days at Beach Club. Unfortunately, those were about the only positives for us. The quick service food was beyond disappointing. I would venture to say that some items we received were inedible. During our short stay, there were multiple issues with our family’s orders, including incorrect or missing items. Initially we thought perhaps it was a one off occurrence. It happens. Unfortunately, it appeared to become a pattern. I personally ended up throwing away food from both of my meals at different times because I found the quality that inedible. The overall food and service experience simply didn’t have the consistency we’ve experienced at other Disney resorts. We realized fairly soon after getting settled that this probably wasn’t going to be the right resort for us. We considered asking to move, but since we were only staying one night, we didn’t want to be difficult and decided to give it a chance. In retrospect, I wish we had moved and trusted our initial observations. Old Key West wasn’t a resort we had originally considered. Our usual favorite resort was fully booked, and Old Key West was suggested because it had availability. We booked it at the last minute without doing the research we normally do before staying somewhere unfamiliar. We were tired after a middle of night fire alarm and evacuation at another resort so were looking for a peaceful, relaxing final night to recover. While Old Key West was certainly quieter, it didn’t provide the resort experience we expected. For context, we favor Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, Yacht Club, Riviera and Grand Floridian. Old Key West has a completely different atmosphere. To us, it felt much more like staying in a basic condo rental community than being immersed in a Disney resort. Some families may prefer that style, particularly if they value space, plan to do much of their own cooking, spend most of their time away from the resort, and want a quieter setting. It just isn’t what we’re looking for when staying at Disney. Another important consideration we didn’t appreciate until staying here was how spread out and exposed the layout is. This became particularly noticeable during Florida’s frequent thunderstorms. Unlike resorts where restaurants and many amenities can be accessed from within the main building or through predominantly covered areas, at Old Key West you need to travel outdoors from your separate building to access any food and other amenities. During a thunderstorm with lightning, our choices were essentially to remain in our room and wait out the storm or venture outside, which I will not expose my family to. With Florida weather, I think families should consider this aspect of the resort’s layout. I much prefer having dining and amenities accessible without needing to cross open outdoor areas during severe weather. The pool has a slide for kids, the kitchen level suite rooms are spacious, and the resort was quiet. Beyond those things, this was unfortunately our most disappointing Disney resort experience. Our biggest lesson was to stick with the Disney resorts whose atmosphere, layout and level of service we are familiar with and have consistently enjoyed. Old Key West may be a great fit for families looking for what it offers, but it definitely wasn’t for ours, and we won’t be returning.
