This is one of my favorite hotels in Washington DC. I eat at Greenhouse at least once a quarter and I love the Quill! However, I did have an unpleasant experience here tonight. My date was taking iPhone photos of me in the library room for a few minutes before heading back up to the room for the night (around 10 pm). No flash was used, by the way, and the room was empty. When we exited the corridor, an African American security lady admonished me for taking photos in that room and rudely questioned if we were guests at the hotel. I tried to explain that yes, my date is staying at the hotel and I’m his guest, and she cut me off saying that the hotel is privately owned and the owners don’t like people taking photos in the hotel. We had just spent $250+ at Greenhouse and were heading back up to the room. I understand she was doing her job, but I wasn’t disturbing anybody and it seemed a bit like I was singled out when I see photos of people in the library room on social media all the time. If I’m staying at a 5 star hotel as a guest of a paying customer, I will be taking non flash photos on my iPhone because I love photography and the photos are for my personal memories and not for commercial use. Thanks.
This is my go to hotel in DC! It feels like being at a top quality luxury hotel in Paris. The service is top class! The manager Ryan is exceptional! I highly recommend this hotel! The breakfast is delicious as well.
My daughter’s wedding reception was held in the Greenhouse Room at The Jefferson, and I could not be more pleased with the delicious food and impeccable service! In addition, the venue itself is beautiful, historic, and extraordinarily well maintained. The Events Manager, Chris, is a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond in providing my daughter with creative ideas and support that turned her wedding dreams into reality. I cannot thank Chris, and the entire staff at The Jefferson enough for making our wedding reception there such a memorable, perfect occasion!

From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. We were greeted with fresh waters at check-in, received a wonderful room upgrade, and had every special request accommodated without hesitation.
We booked through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts and took full advantage of the perks, but honestly the property stands on its own. The staff across the board was outstanding, from the bellmen and front desk team to every host and hostess we encountered throughout our stay.
Having lived in DC for years, we know this city well, and The Jefferson remains one of its finest addresses. The location is ideal, and the hotel strikes that rare balance of full-service luxury with a boutique intimacy you rarely find. It feels like a grand hotel without ever feeling impersonal.
We will absolutely be back.
Absolutely loved my stay at The Jefferson. The history, the setting, and the rooms were all so beautiful. Add the service and staff to top it off and it’s probably one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had.
The one thing I was a little disappointed in is that housekeeping would only set up half of the room for turndown service on two of the three nights. When I called the front desk about it they were quick to apologize and offer snacks and amenities.
The hotel has so much history and things to explore, however it is on the pricier side. But if cost is not a factor, I would definitely recommend staying here. Its location is also a plus being close to many great restaurants and places of interest!
