We stayed here for 5 nights. Firstly, let me say that the service and location of the hotel was excellent. The rooms and public areas were clean and the staff very friendly and eager to assist. However, the rest of the hotel is frustrating to say the least. We originally upgraded our room to a premium room, expecting a bath. When we checked in, we were told it was a coin flip on whether the rooms had a bath or what the staff called a nook. In our case, we were given the nook and couldn't get a room with a bath. Very disappointing, as no soaking in a tub after a long day walking around and sightseeing. To make it worse, the spa was found to be open only 2 days a week, so no massaging those tired legs and feet either. After entering our room the nook turned out to be a cut out at the back of the room with shelves on the wall, a coffee table, tv and what can only be described as a bench seat with no back, up against the walls. You could not hang out there, as 1, there was no light in there, meaning it was always dark, and 2, there was no back rest, just the wall. A sofa in there would have easily made it more usable. We used it for only unpacking and packing our cases and it reminded us our entire stay of the bath tub and spa we were sorely missing. As we explored the room some more, it became obvious the room was pure style over function. There was no fridge in the room. A card left on the desk stated we had to ask for one. So we ended up with this black dented and scratched mini fridge being brought in and left on the floor next to the tv, just plugged into wall. Next we looked for storage for our clothes, very little. Don't get me wrong, the closet had plenty of hangers, but there was only one usable drawer in the main room. The bed side cabinet drawers were only 2-3 inches deep, and not enough space overall for a few nights stay and to get organized. Next the mirrors. Not a single one in the main room. Usually one in the hallway right? maybe above the desk? Nope, not here. The only floor to ceiling mirror was in the bathroom, in an awkward position in the corner next to the toilet and about only 8 inches wide, not user friendly. Speaking of the bathroom, it was genuinely nice and well maintained. The shower was great and the addition of the adjustable lighted face mirror was appreciated, but there was only one hook in there. Literally, one hook, next to the shower door, where you could hang just one robe or towel. The only towel rack was in the toilet area above the toilet, not anywhere near the shower, but also not high enough above the toilet, so unless you triple folded it, your towel would drape along the top of the tank and get in the way of the flusher. The rack was barely wide enough to get 2 towels on and no where else to hang them. There was nowhere for a hand towel to hang or dry either. It was just not practical. Don't get me wrong, the room was modern and clean, but if you are staying longer than a couple of days, youight not feel very at home.

It took me days to book a hotel for my husbands Father’s Day trip. I was looking for a family friendly hotel that was upscale but not too expensive and in a good location. I am so glad I selected the Intercontinental at the Wharf. The hotel is very clean and the rooms were a nice size. The rooftop pool was very nice with a great view. Also, this is probably the best customer service I’ve ever received at a hotel. All of the employees were so kind and just seemed happy to be there! Housekeeping was on time every day and did a great job cleaning the room. This is now one of my go to spots in DC!

The problems started as soon as I arrived to check in. I was told I had to pay a "deposit" that I hadn't been informed about beforehand. I asked the young man assisting me if he could charge it directly to the card used for the reservation, but he said no—he needed the "physical" card to process the charge. He kept me waiting without offering a solution, so I decided to leave and come back later. When I returned to try checking in again, a young woman told me I had to pay for the entire stay using a "physical" card. The amount was very high, and I told her I didn't have the funds at that moment; earlier that morning, the other guy had said he would only charge the "deposit" (approximately $700)—but it turned out they HAD ALREADY CHARGED THAT, even though they had claimed earlier that it wasn't possible (?). I ended up having to pay for the ENTIRE STAY with a different card. Today, I checked out, and they charged me for the WHOLE STAY all over again. Stop lying to and scamming people. It is unfair that I received such terrible service and was charged twice. I demand a refund.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ **An Unforgettable Luxury Experience – Our New Home Away from Home in Washington, DC**
From the moment we arrived at the InterContinental Washington D.C. – The Wharf, we knew we had found something truly special. Every interaction reflected genuine hospitality, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. This is, without question, one of the finest hotel experiences my husband and I have ever had.
The experience began the moment we pulled up to the entrance. We were warmly greeted by **Aiden**, who immediately opened our car doors, welcomed us with a smile, assisted with our luggage, and made us feel as though we were returning home rather than checking into a hotel. His professionalism and kindness set the tone for the rest of our stay.
We were then checked in by **Ali**, whose exceptional customer service exceeded every expectation. The check-in process was seamless, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Rather than simply processing a reservation, Ali made us feel like valued guests whose comfort truly mattered.
The outstanding service continued throughout our stay. The staff personally escorted us to our room, delivered our luggage, and ensured that every detail had been taken care of before leaving us to settle in. We requested a mini refrigerator and microwave—items that are not standard in the rooms—and they were delivered promptly without hesitation.
Every member of the staff consistently went above and beyond. Doors were opened before we ever reached them. We were greeted by name, treated with genuine kindness, and made to feel like family rather than guests. Their attention to detail was extraordinary—they were always one step ahead, anticipating our needs before we even had to ask.
The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. Every space exudes elegance, from the beautifully designed lobby to the sophisticated restaurant, tastefully decorated hallways, luxurious lighting, and carefully selected furnishings and décor. The guest rooms are equally impressive—beautifully appointed, spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully designed to create an atmosphere of comfort and sophistication.
One evening, after returning from a long day of work, we walked into our room to discover a **complimentary charcuterie board and a bottle of wine** waiting for us. It was such an unexpected and thoughtful gesture, and it perfectly exemplified the level of hospitality this hotel provides. It was the perfect way to unwind after a busy day and made us feel genuinely appreciated.
Another thoughtful amenity that impressed us was the complimentary shoe shining service—a small touch that reflects the hotel's commitment to anticipating every guest's needs and delivering a truly first-class experience.
What makes this hotel even more special for us is that I recently opened my professional office at The Wharf, just steps away from the InterContinental. Because I will be traveling to Washington, DC frequently, finding a hotel that feels welcoming and dependable was incredibly important. I can say with complete confidence that we have found our home away from home.
To Aiden, Ali, and the entire InterContinental team: thank you for your kindness, compassion, professionalism, and impeccable service. You transformed what could have been an ordinary hotel stay into an unforgettable experience.
If you are looking for true luxury, exceptional hospitality, and a team that genuinely cares about every guest, look no further than the InterContinental Washington D.C. – The Wharf. We are already looking forward to our next visit and are excited to become regular guests. We truly feel like we've found our new InterContinental family.
