Buyer Beware , read fine print !!! Had to cancel over 2 months out because of a recent medical diagnosis of a family member that needs our help for an extended period . Winvian charges a $250.00 administration fee when they return your deposit, stating they are a small entity. My husband and I travel extensively and stay at 5 star hotels and small inns and never had encountered such a fee . Just Terrible ! Owner response Update : I am sorry that assumption that we were clearly told during our booking is simply not true. We booked over the phone and were NOT told about the $250.00 administration fee if cancelled over sixty days out . My husband called a few times because we needed more information if we where going to bring our dog and unfortunately the only thing we were told was that we will forfeit one night if we canceled 30 days or less prior to arrival. I understand you have policies and not arguing that point . But since you tout being so customer oriented and hospitality is your way of doing business, we are very disappointed that we were not shown that with our situation.

OH MY GOD!! What an incredible place with such unique cabins and amazing food! The staff were so professional and welcoming too. We stayed at the Beaver Lodge, which was impeccably designed. The food was some of the best we’ve ever had; cooked to perfection with a good variety and they were able to accommodate allergies and diet preferences without impacting the quality. A definite must-stay!

This review is for the spa only. This was our first time using the spa. We have visited Winvian restaurant and grounds multiple times in past few years. We live in the area and it is our favorite place to have a truly special meal. Chef Eddy never disappoints. Our visits are always occasions. We have a small farm property that we work in our leisure time ourselves and we admire Winvian's grounds very much. They are impeccable. And inspirational. We enjoying going early, having a drink, and strolling the property before we dine. But about the spa...In the afternoon, before our anniversary dinner, my husband and I made massage appointments. We both enjoy having massages and we have had them, during the course of our 22-year marriage, at dozens of spas, resorts, hotels and, at times in our lives, on a semi-regular basis with local therapists. The Winvian spa setting is beautiful. And serene. Definitely one of the nicest spas, in terms of ambiance and facility, that we have visited. My husband very much enjoyed his massage and reported that his therapist was excellent. I had a very different experience. Frankly, I was disappointed with my massage service. In my past experience, a Swedish massage is normally a mix of strokes and pressures. This one was entirely light effleurage, no kneading or using thumbs or fingers in tight spots. So I asked if she could use a little bit more pressure. When I did, the therapist responded that this was a Swedish massage and that for a deeper massage, I should have booked a deep tissue massage. I let her know that I did have a deep tissue massage once previously but found it left me too sore. So I normally book the Swedish. Wanting to return in the future, I asked if there as something in between I could book. She said next time, I need to book a deep tissue but tell the therapist to work lightly. Also, she did not do my arms or hands. She did not do my feet, other than light brushing over heels and tops of my feet consistent with the light effleurage that was the entire massage she gave. I asked her why she did not and she said that it was not included in a 50 min Swedish. She asked me if I was unhappy. I replied that this was definitely not like any Swedish massage I have ever had and I have had many, and yes, usually all 50-60 min. I honestly didn't know if this was just a mediocre/poor experience with this therapist or if I misunderstood the services offered. I did want to clear up what I should request for future so I spoke to the spa manager about my experience. She took the blame and apologized, saying she does tell her therapists to make a distinction between Swedish and deep tissue. She suggested I try the hot stone massage next time, as that uses a firmer stroke. That surprised me because I would not have expected the addition of hot stones to impact the massage pressure. I would like to return and hope that my next experience is more consistent with all the experiences I have had at other spas. I will definitely be more clear when I book. I am sharing my experience hoping others can avoid similar disappointment. The therapist was Elaine and the manager was Lauren.

We just wrapped up a wonderful 3-night stay at Winvian Farm.. our second time back after about 6 or 7 years, and it was just as special as we remembered. The individual, uniquely themed cottages make the entire experience feel completely distinct from any standard luxury resort. The grounds are gorgeous, and having bikes available to explore the property at your own pace is such a convenient, charming touch. Dining on-site was fantastic from start to finish.. the restaurant truly delivers an exceptional culinary experience. The Litchfield Hills area is wonderful to explore, and being just a short drive from Lime Rock Park makes the location unbeatable. If you're looking for a relaxing, high-end New England retreat, Winvian is tough to beat. We definitely won’t wait another 6 years to return!
