Parking is tight, they have Direct TV and it buffers a lot. If you want a good night's sleep ask for the third floor or you will hear footsteps all night from the hallways above.

Absolutely the worst parking area I've encountered in a long time. Only two handicap spots and not enough regular spots for the amount of guests. The breakfast area is very cramped and poorly lit. The room smelled like it had been smoked in, but was supposedly a non smoking room. I would not recommend this place.

We stayed at this Best Western in Durango for four days, and I can honestly say it was one of the most positive hotel experiences we have ever had.
Over the years, we have stayed at many luxury properties, including the Ritz-Carlton and The Breakers, and this hotel compares favorably to some of those upscale establishments.
Kristi Leos, the Manager on Duty, was exceptional. We encountered a minor issue during our stay, and she went above and beyond to ensure it was resolved to our complete satisfaction. Her professionalism, attentiveness, and commitment to guest service were truly impressive.
Every employee we encountered was courteous, professional, and respectful. The level of customer service throughout the hotel was outstanding.
We highly recommend this property. It is affordable, offers a wonderful complimentary breakfast, and features a daily happy hour for guests who enjoy a glass of wine or other refreshments.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we would not hesitate to stay here again on our next visit to Durango. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After having had good experiences at the Rio Grande Inn in the past we stayed in a first floor room for the first time May 15-18, 2026 and the visit was much less positive. We have never needed a handicap accessible room but the bathroom had the lowest toilet I can ever remember seeing, like a child's toilet but with the old fashioned large tank. My wife who has rheumatoid arthritis could not get up unless I pulled her off. I walk three miles a day and it was difficult for me. There was nothing to hold on to. We also had to hold the handle down the entire long flush to flush even a single piece of toilet paper down the drain. We told the front desk staff and they brought a shower chair to grab but it didn't help. They could easily have pointed out that there was a handicap accessible bathroom on our floor next to the dining area but did not. We also had a problem with a wakeup call not coming when desired but both 6 hours before and after the scheduled time. Our impression was that the two people manning the front desk that day were more bothered by us than interested in our welfare. We eventually found out that toilets on the upper floors where we had stayed before were higher. We emailed the front desk manager on our return but never received a reply.
On the plus side the custodian who pointed out the handicap bathroom, the lady handling the evening happy hour with drinks for adults and the front desk attendant the day we checked out were much more gracious. The full breakfast is nice. Parking is adequate even when the motel was full as it was for our stay. Downtown is only three blocks away.

We booked the Best Western Plus Rio Grande for its proximity to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad station and were really impressed by the hotel. Not only was the intended commute walkable (3 blocks from the station) but we were also surprised to discover that we had a private balcony with a view of the rail yard, and were offered two complimentary alcoholic beverages per night during the hotel's happy hour. Parking is available behind the hotel and the pool and hot tub are very easily accessible in the hotel's main atrium. The infrastructure and the furniture in the rooms is a bit dated, but the hotel is actively working on renovating and our accommodations were very comfortable. They also included earplugs in every room to offset any noise from the railroad. We would definitely stay at the Rio Grande Inn again!
