I have stayed at about a dozen hotels in Durango, we chose the hotel for walkability and were surprised with the clean room and excellent staff. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient, take advantage of checking in online for a smooth check in. We arrived about 4:45 for an overnight stay, got settled and enjoyed a complimentary beverage at their happy hour. The bartender was great, very fun to chat with. This hotel is convenient to downtown, we walked to Anarchy Brewing and Steamworks for dinner. The room was clean and both of us were very pleased with the shower having great pressure and hot water (it's the little things). We booked a king with a balcony, there really is no view from the balconies but fresh air was a nice perk. We had no issues with noise from the atrium, the hotel had a large group of teenage hikers and still no noise issues. This will be our place to stay when we are going to Durango.

DONT STAY HERE IF YOU DONT LIKE TRAINS. With that out of the way, too keep it breif, Excellent location, fantastic staff clean rooms. They even went so far to stock the rooms for people who dont like Trains. If that happens to be you, get a hotel on the outskirts town. Stones throw from everything great in Durango Colorado

Edited to reply to owner: I'll assume the first paragraph was inadvertently copied from an internal email where you all kicked around how best to reply? That most certainly is not a leaf bug. It looks more like an earwig, which are attracted to moisture. The pool just feet from the door of the room (which really did seem like it had been converted from an office or storage room of some sort?) may well be why those bugs like that area. At any rate, you've continued with the semantics over what type of bugs were crawling around the beds in that room – regardless of what they're called, we weren't willing to stay in a place that was crawling with bugs. The only offer I recall being made by your staff member was to send someone to "look" at the room. Nobody is seeking "compensation." We asked for a refund from a room that we didn't use – we arrived, and promptly left. We look forward to seeing the refund that Shelby promised during our phone call at 10:47 AM on August 10, and that was reconfirmed at 11:08 AM when we received a call from your hotel requesting that we email a photo, apparently to be shared with Ecolab. ---- Where to begin? We were in our "room" for a whopping five minutes before leaving because of bugs in the room. This experience means that we will not give any Best Western – anywhere – our business moving forward. 1) They claim to be pet friendly, but then mark every grassy area around the property as being off limits for pets. 2) They offer a lecture up front about pets. 3) They offer a lecture about no smoking (we don't smoke anyway) and then put us in a room that reeked of smoke. 4) Our room was clearly a converted office or closet. Two doors with glass top top bottom looked out to the indoor pool. The one window looked out to a covered, brick walkway. This was more like a cell than a hotel room. 5) There were bugs in the room. When I went to the desk to tell them we'd be leaving, the response was dismissive and condescending at best and defined by semantics over what sort of bugs were on, around, and about our beds. 6) When I asked for contact information for a manager, I was pointed to business cards for an assistant manager. The next day, a call to speak with a manager revealed that I'd been dealing with a manager all along at the desk.

This was the absolute worst experience we have ever had with Best Western. From the moment we checked in, I was not even offered a welcome package merely thanked for being a reward member. The parking lot has only ONE handicapped parking spot and you can not park within 50 feet of your room based on the available parking spaces, I am disabled. My wife took a shower when we got settled and water went everywhere because the shower rod was loose and the curtain would not stay in place. In the morning we realized that the 'refrigerator' was not cold enough to protect the food, then realized it was NOT a refrigerator it was a wine chiller? The room is listed with a refrigerator NOT a wine chiller. When I went to talk to the office about the shower issue the young man at the counter did not apologize for the issue rather asked if I came to get towels to clean up the water? When I told him that we do not have a refrigerator in the room but a wine chiller and we lost over $50. of food again no 'sorry' rather he offered a bag of chips to compensate us?!? What a slap in the face! When we went to have breakfast, we should have gone out somewhere, we found pre made frozen the microwaved egg patties, a likewise version pretending to be 'sausage' that looked like a poor excuse for dog food and had a horrible smell to it. I have pictures of the 'not a refrigerator' and breakfast if allowed to attach, I will, if not they will be available if you wish to see them. When we checked out the lady asked how our stay was and I told her, she apologized and offer 20% off the bill for all the issues but I asked her to have the manager call me so any compensation would come from them not an employee that might get in trouble for doing it without specific approval, I should have accepted! as of this writing that 'manager' has still NOT even called to hear what happened or offer the compensation the employee did, not a peep!! Slapped in the face then disrespected to the nth degree!! What a disgrace!!!!

It is starting to show it's age but the location to the train station and main street of Durango is why you stay. Everything is very easily within a 10 minute walk
