The rooms are very dated, but clean and tidy. Room service is daily. The best part is the beach is just across the road.

Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed with our stay at the Best Western Harbour Inn & Suites in Huntington Beach. From the outside, the hotel looks perfectly fine, but once we got into our room, it felt very old and outdated. When we arrived, the air conditioner wasn’t even plugged in or turned on, and the carpet almost felt damp underneath our feet, which was uncomfortable. Overall, the room just didn’t feel particularly nice or updated. We were also surprised that we had to pay an additional fee to park overnight. We didn’t even arrive until around 9:30 PM and left early the following morning, so having to pay extra just to park for those few hours felt excessive, especially for this type of property. For a hotel in the Huntington Beach area, we expected quite a bit more. The property could really benefit from a major remodel and modernization, especially the guest rooms. Between the condition of the room and the additional parking charge, this unfortunately would not be somewhere we would choose to stay again.

The Best Western Harbor Inn in Sunset Beach / Huntington Beach is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to motels along this stretch of the PCH. Normally the price range is under $200, but during the US Open of Surfing the rate jumped up to $350 per night. Worth it? The location is pretty great, with Sunset Beach located across the Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond the row of high-dollar beach houses. Amenity-wise there is a small (very small) fitness area with a few cardio machines and pulley-weights. It’s all you really need when on vacay, but do be warned this is definitely not a “fitness facility”. There is also an expansive lounge where daily breakfast is served, with complementary coffee and a few snacks available for the entirety of each day. Pretty cool. Meanwhile, my room (204) was surprisingly big. It was clean, insect-free (important to know for any beach motel), and had everything you could need, from ironing board to blow dryer and lots of toiletries. The Wifi works, but it’s restrictive even for commonly visited content. Certain websites (including Reddit categories) are not accessible which may bother some people. Meanwhile, the TV is large and features all of the streaming apps you’re accustomed to (must sign-in). The only downside, especially at a rate of $350 per night, was the fact that they won’t hold your luggage if you arrive ahead of check-in or need a place to store your bag after check-in, even for an hour. All I had was a small backpack and asked that they hold it for two hours so I didn’t have to lug it around while waiting to leave for the airport but reception said it was against policy. Wasn't super stoked on the way one reception desk worker communicated this information, but the rest of the staff were pleasant. Not accommodating the request to hold a small bag for a couple of hours is a first for any Best Western I’ve even stayed at, ever. At $200 per night and under I’d give the Best Western Harbour Inn in Sunset Beach CA a 4-star rating. At $300 per night and up it’s a 3-star rating, so I’d split the difference at 3.5 stars (Google doesn’t seem to allow half-stars in the main rating). If you see this hotel priced at $300 and up I’d look at other properties in the general area, even if it means heading further south along PCH into Dana Point and San Clemente where there is a wealth or more affordable options with equal to or better service. All in all, it’s a decent property.
