We stayed here over the Fourth of July weekend, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. The location, accommodations, and service were all outstanding. It's the perfect place to stay in Sonoma close to downtown and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the town square.
The room was one of the nicest we’ve stayed in recently. The bathroom was especially impressive, with heated floors (a rare and amazing touch!), and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The updated air conditioning was also much appreciated during the summer heat.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Sonoma, especially first-time visitors. It’s conveniently located about 40 minutes from STS Airport and roughly 90 minutes from SFO, depending on traffic. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly return!

MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa was a pleasant stay overall, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. The service was good and generally what I would expect from a boutique luxury hotel. The property is attractive, well maintained, and offers a comfortable atmosphere.
That said, nothing about the experience really stood out or justified making it a destination for a personal vacation. If I were visiting the area again for leisure, I would likely choose a different property. It’s a solid option, but not one I would go out of my way to return to.

The gardening and landscaping here is beautiful and walking around feels serene. The staff members were great, and the young curly-haired man managing the pool showed a particularly elevated level of hospitality. He was consistently friendly, upbeat, and proactive in making sure pool guests had everything they could need or want.
The hotel manager was also friendly and helpful during checkout. I used Chase to book and had some questions about fees, and he made sure everything was sorted out quickly.
I stayed Sunday to Tuesday, so enjoyed a less busy and relatively quiet hotel — it was a wonderful experience.

My partner and I have a wedding here in the fall and I am in the wedding party so I have to stay here. We have each called MacArthur Place every single day for the last eight days trying to book a room in the wedding block. Each time someone picks up the phone and then transfer us to “someone who can help us book.” That person never picks up on the transfer. Several times we have called back or flagged this for the first person we have talked to. At least twice we have heard that the manager would be made aware and we would receive a call back. That has not happened. We have also left voicemails at least five times.I notice that the hotel is quick to respond on here so I thought I would give this a shot, but I have never had such a hard time trying to give someone money. And it does not bode well for the service at what appears to be a beautiful and expensive hotel. We are disappointed.

Layla at MacArthur Place delivered one of those memorable dining experiences that reminds you why Sonoma is such a special destination. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between sophisticated and relaxed, with beautiful design and a warm, welcoming energy.
We started with creative cocktails that were as beautiful as they were delicious. Every dish that followed was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The blistered shishito peppers were perfectly seasoned, and the skillet cornbread with creamy accompaniments was absolutely irresistible. The smoky hummus topped with olives, nuts, and served with outstanding bread was packed with flavor.
The ahi tuna taco was fresh and vibrant, and the fried chicken was exceptional. Perfectly crisp, juicy, and paired with a tangy slaw and dipping sauces that elevated every bite. The steak was tender and flavorful, accompanied by crisp fries and a fresh salad. Even the simple details, from the plating to the ambiance, reflected the care that goes into the experience.
What truly sets Layla apart is how effortlessly it combines elevated cuisine with comfort and hospitality. Whether you're staying at MacArthur Place or simply looking for an outstanding meal in Sonoma, Layla is absolutely worth a visit.

Frequently Asked Questions About MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa
How far are you from the center of town? Can we walk there?
We are a hop, skip and a jump from the center of town, known as Sonoma Plaza, or “The Square.” In more concrete terms, we are a ten minute walk, a 5 minute bicycle ride (less if you use one of our electric bikes!) and a 3 minute drive. Our property sits at the edge of a beautiful residential neighborhood with Victorian, mid-century, craftsman and modern homes and stately trees, so the walk or bike ride to the center of town is peaceful, beautiful and safe.
Are there wineries close to you?
Sonoma Plaza, a ten minute walk from MacArthur Place, is home to more than 30 tasting rooms, most of which are open to the public and welcome walk-ins. And within a short 8-12 minute drive, you can access over two dozen additional wineries amidst the vineyards and foothills. We are also a 20-minute drive from Napa, with its own impressive array of wineries.
Do you offer an airport transfer service, or a shuttle to Sonoma Square?
We do not offer a standard, regularly-scheduled transport service. We work with each guest personally to customize transportation to their preferences. Whether you fancy a shuttle bus, town car, rideshare, limousine, refurbished vintage Land Rover…or an electric bicycle, our concierge team would be happy to help you plan the perfect mode of transport for your journey.
Is it easy to get Uber and Lyft?
Uber and Lyft are available in Sonoma, although wait times can range dramatically depending on the time of year, day of the week or time of day. Summer weekends, holidays and big event nights (such as the Tuesday Night Farmers Market in May thru October), for instance, usually require a significant wait. If you are planning a day of wine tasting at various vineyards, we recommend hiring a driver or booking a tour for a more seamless experience. For airport transportation, we recommend allowing extra time in case wait times are lengthy. Alternatively, we would be happy to arrange a driver or shuttle service for you.
Do you have a restaurant on property?
Our newly-reimagined property has three culinary outlets, Layla, The Bar at MacArthur, & The Porch. Layla is a contemporary and elevated Mediterranean restaurant serving breakfast & lunch daily and dinner Wednesday – Sunday. The Bar at MacArthur is a warm and inviting bar-lounge that serves a curated selection of cocktails, beers and an easy all-day menu, and The Porch is a communal coffee shop, stock house, and marketplace.
Are there any vegetarian or vegan options on the menu?
Layla offers an array of fresh and seasonal dishes featuring fresh and local produce in Sonoma. We have several vegetarian and vegan options. Many dishes can be made vegetarian or vegan upon request.
Is there a corkage fee at Layla?
Yes, the corkage fee is $35 per bottle and is waived with the purchase of 1 bottle (750ml or magnum) on the list.
Do you offer in-room dining? What are the hours?
Yes, we have a seasonal in-room dining menu featuring highlights from the Layla and Bar menus. In-room dining is offered from 7:30am until 9pm. Breakfast is served 7:30-10:30am, after which guests can order from our All Day menu. The menu is available on our website, or you can call the front desk for assistance.
Can you recommend any other great places to eat and drink in the area?
We have a treasure trove of great dining and drinking establishments within minutes of MacArthur Place. We have curated a round-up of the very best for every mood and palate. Click here for our Eat & Drink | Best Sonoma Restaurants blog: https://www.macarthurplace.com/journal/bests/
Is The Spa at MacArthur open only to hotel guests?
The Spa at MacArthur is open to day guests as well as overnight hotel guests. We recommend making advance reservations for Spa treatments, as our facilities are limited and tend to book out especially in peak summer months. To book a spa appointment, please call 707-933-3193.
Do you offer any fitness classes or passes?
Each Saturday and Sunday morning from 9-10am we offer an invigorating yoga session led by one of our talented local instructors – Jes Williams & Andrea Bogart. This all-levels vinyasa class weaves together a mindful flow linking breath to challenging poses, with an emphasis on alignment, strength, balance and just letting go. This yoga class is held indoors in the colder months in one of our cozy Coach House event salons or on our Burris House lawn during the late Spring through early Fall. This class is complimentary for hotel guests, and a mat will be provided. The class is $10 for Sonoma locals.
What amenities and services are included with our stay?
We offer an array of complimentary services and amenities to enjoy during your stay: Valet parking | Pedal-assist Blix electric bike | Wine welcome at reception | In-room bottled water and provisions basket | Freshly ground, steeped coffee & organic tea and kettle in-room daily | Wireless high speed internet property-wide | 65” TVs with Sonifi: DirecTV, Chromecast | Fully-equipped fitness room with Peloton bikes & TRX system | Spa facilities access to outdoor relaxation garden with whirpool, co-ed steam room, locker rooms | Weekend yoga classes, plus online classes on-demand | Electric vehicle charging stations (Tesla & universal)

How much is your pet fee and what does it include?
Our pet fee is $150, with an extra $50 per dog (two dogs maximum). This fee includes deep cleaning of the guestroom and furnishings after your stay, as well as a host of amenities for your four-legged companions. We offer a dog bed, food and water bowls, treats, toys and waste bags. View our complete pet policy: https://www.macarthurplace.com/room-rate-policies/
Are there babysitting services on site?
We do not have on-demand babysitting services on property, but we would be happy to recommend local nannies and babysitters that are highly regarded.
Are there any special events happening around town during my stay?
There is always something exciting happening in Sonoma. Our concierge would be happy to suggest an itinerary for a day’s excursion in the vineyards, a jaunt to the coast, a walkabout in town or anything else you have in mind. We also share curated itineraries and spotlights on local happenings in our Journal and in our Events Calendar.
