We got a room with 2 full beds, which are too small for 3 adults. When I asked to be moved to a double queen bedroom, they told me that the hotel only had king-size beds and full-size beds. Really ? It must be the only hotel in the world to still use full beds in a room with enough space to fit 2 king-size beds. Too small and not specified in the description. Not happy with my room and would not recommend. Also, around the hotel, there are no cafeterias, restaurants, or grocery stores

I was surprised when I walked in to the Mark Hopkins in SF. I was underwhelmed with the dated decor and funishings of the lobby. The lighting was drab and there was lack flowers and plants. The hallways also had dated wallpaper and the wall trim was painted but warn and old. The Standard King bedroom was a nice size and bed was really comfortable, but again the decor and furniture were dated. The bathroom in room 318 was terrible. It was so tiny. There was no space to move around the sink which was on the right of the door. The toilet was one step in from the door. The bathtub was on the left of the center toilet. You could not shut the bathroom door unless you squeezed yourself in the 5 inches of space in between the bathtub and toilet or sink and toilet. For $400/night even if it is a standard you should have a bathroom that you have room to least bath and dress in without maneuvering around the toilet.

In my experience, the service and hospitality at valet, check-in and calling the front desk for assistance has been excellent; that’s 5 stars. But I just have to give the actual hotel room 3 stars. I have a room with 2 beds and the view would be amazing if most of the outside of the window wasn’t so filthy we can’t actually see out of it. I can also hear every single little plumbing choice my neighbors make. On all sides, I hear a loud grating noise in my hotel room whenever someone turns on their shower and the noise stays in my room until I hear them shut off the shower. The building is old but hearing the pipes wasn’t on my bingo card. The sound disturbs my peace and my rest and if I can’t have that in a fancy hotel room, I feel like the stay is pretty unbearable / waste of money. Also there are super intensely steep hills surrounding this hotel so prepare yourself if you’re in the car and on foot in the area. And at least one of the bath robes looks a little dingy. I kind of wish it wasn’t too late to cancel and go elsewhere. But at least the staff is super friendly.

As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry before, I wanted to share my honest review of our stay. First, the historical character of the hotel is truly unique, and the location is excellent. There are so many things to do within a short distance, making it a great place to experience Nob Hill and the surrounding areas of San Francisco. Our stay was from 5/8–5/9 for two nights. We booked a Double City View room for our family of four, and it was more than sufficient for our needs. The beds were comfortable, the room was well maintained, and the city view at night was amazing. A special thank you as well to the hardworking housekeeping team for keeping everything in great condition throughout our stay. The bell staff and valet attendants were very kind, professional, and accommodating. The front desk concierge team was consistently attentive and helpful during our visit. A special thank you to Maletina, San (if I remembered the name correctly), and the other gentleman at the front desk whose names I unfortunately cannot recall. All of you were polite, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Please keep up the great work. Service alone earns this hotel 5 stars. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a true historic San Francisco experience. The prestige and character of Nob Hill’s past and present still feel very much alive here. We look forward to returning soon.

This is a beautiful building and the staff has been great (shout out to Tony downstairs - he's awesome!). However, the lack of basic amenities in the room (while paying a $35/night amenity fee) is disappointing. There's a fridge, but it's locked and they supposedly don't have a key to unlock it. There's no coffee machine. They can bring a water kettle but not any tea or instant coffee. There's no pool. The rooms are dated - not in a way that makes them gross, but still. There's a difference. And for the price asked for a room, I expect better.
