The building is historic and has a nice lobby and restaurant, but the location is definitely not a plus. It’s far enough from the Tenderloin that you won’t be dealing with as much street activity, but close enough that you may not feel comfortable walking around. The IHG app also didn’t make the $35/day destination fee clear to me or maybe I just missed it. So THERE IS A DESTINATION FEE. Keep that in mind. My check-in experience was frustrating. I arrived early, they told me my room wasn't ready. That's fine, I left my bags and came back at check-in time. My room still wasn’t ready. An hour later, it still wasn’t ready, so the manager had to figure something out. Then the front desk overcharged my card by several hundred dollars and had to reverse the charge. Thankfully, the rest of the stay was uneventful, which is the only reason I’m not giving this place one star.

I'm a Diamond Elite status member and decided to stay here. It was not worth it. Employees are protesting for PTO outside and the noise just wasn't worth it. More power to them ,but I needed some sleep. Toilet seat had something burned on it and the shower was missing tile. Kind of a let down for a Hotel Spero. Couldn't even take a video of the view. I felt bad for the workers tbh

We completely understand the temporary labor dispute and the noise caused by the strike. The management handled the situation very well by offering us a room in a quieter wing with a higher room category, as well as a discount for the inconvenience. I also accidentally left my jacket in another room, and the staff returned it to me very quickly. We really appreciated their understanding and excellent customer service.

The staff was on strike during the time of our stay. Won’t speak on the needs or treatment of the employees. What I will say I find unprofessional is that there was NO notice of any strike. Considering the Hotel knows of it’s own unionized work force, it makes no sense how they expect guests to pay FULL PRICE, for an incomplete service package. it was very difficult to get any rest on our long needed vacation, it was inconvenient to even consider booking a different hotel. the hotel itself is also located in the Tenderloin, which for those that do not know is a less than safe part of the city. The room was not even fit for two people. We booked the king bed room for two people, the bathroom situation was a NIGHTMARE. The sink was inconveniently placed behind a pillar and there was no room to wash our hands or brush our teeth. On the second night of our stay we had come back after a long day of walking and expected to grab a cup of fresh cold water from the lobby, however the water was lukewarm at best. All things considered, it was the lack of incentive to accommodate for the unexpected strike that makes us write this review. We are for the workers.

We spent two nights at Hotel Spero and overall had a wonderful stay. The room was clean and spacious, and the reception team gave us a warm and polite welcome upon arrival. Combined with its great location close to Union Square, it was a good base for our time in San Francisco. Recommended!
