Fun historical site next to Old town San Diego. They do a wonderful job of showing you the history of the Mormon Battalion through videos and interactive storytelling. They keep everyone entertained throughout. They also have fun gold panning experience after the show. Great place for families. If you love history, you'll love this place.

Show up at 11:30 am. Parkin the parking lot only to be shouted down by a senior missionary that they are closed for the rest of the day. Only one bus in the parking lot can’t help but feel like we got sidelined because somebody from Idaho was doing a paid bus tour. Keep in mind this place doesn’t close until 7pm so there’s really no excuse to shut down my visitor center paid with my tithing dollars. Especially when we travelled from out of state just like the Idaho tour people.

A very nice experience as story-tellers in costume guide small groups into several rooms as they recreate the Mormons travel to the west coast. Do call or check the website for presentation & visit times.
I happened to come when a very young group came with adult chaperone. One young girl did a fantastic job of helping tell the story of how the men dressed as soldiers. I took my grandson long ago & he loved it. After the story tour, guests can "Pan for Gold" in the courtyard. Easy parking in back of building. It is just a couple blocks walk from Old Town.
