Hermann Bungalows brings back the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age through its unique design aesthetic by renowned designer Steve Hermann. Part of the L’Horizon Resort and Spa, a 1950’s gem that served as a playground for Hollywood A-Listers, and U.S. Presidents alike. Hermann Bungalows is a luxury resort tucked away on the property, boasting an intimate & lavish space to enjoy your escape from it all.
BEWARE:
Unfortunately, the website was deceptive about the rooms we were booking. We selected a Hermann Bungalow based on the photos, but upon arrival we were instead offered a much smaller L’Horizon room in a different section of the property. We were told this kind of mix-up happens frequently, which was concerning. To stay in a more suitable room, we had to pay an additional $600—and even then, the accommodations fell short.
The room itself had several issues. The sliding door did not lock, which required maintenance to fix for basic security. The bed was also broken; I ended up sleeping on a small couch the first night. Although it was repaired the next day, the slats had been damaged and the mattress was still very uncomfortable. On the second night, I again slept on the couch because motion sensor lights kept activating throughout the night, reflecting off mirrors and making it difficult to rest. By the third night, we chose to leave and return home.
The American Express breakfast credit did not go far—it didn’t even cover a basic breakfast like pancakes and coffee—and breakfast service didn’t begin until 8 a.m., which was inconvenient.
While the staff we encountered were kind, there didn’t make up for the poor experience.
Overall, be very cautious when selecting your room, as the booking experience may not reflect what you actually receive.

The grounds are amazing and the rooms are great. Our room (#44) however had a broken fountain in the patio and the front door wasn’t aligned so was difficult to open/close. The property is beautiful but a little funky because the pool and rooms make you feel like you’re on display. The valet team is horrible and makes you feel stupid when you arrive (especially the long haired guy). The front desk staff is a little better than the valet but don’t exude hospitality nor communicate well. They told us we could park our car or have the valet park it near the bungalow side but then the valet said they couldn’t. There’s a large gated parking lot next to the bungalow side of the property that they need to let guests use.
The service does not match the room rate. If you eat in the bungalow area the server/bartender has to run to get the food and disappears for 10-15 minutes. They need food runners so that he can stay with the guests. They need a GM who can properly train the staff and lead by example. We would not stay again nor recommend it for the lack of customer service and poor hospitality

Beautiful Rooms, Disappointing Service
We stayed at the Herman Bungalows over Memorial Day weekend. While the property is undeniably stunning—beautiful design, a serene atmosphere, and thoughtfully curated bungalows—the overall experience didn’t match the premium price point (over $1,000/night).
The resort consistently felt understaffed. Check-in took over 20 minutes, and we saw the same delays happen to other guests throughout our stay, including at checkout. Staff were friendly but often overwhelmed or inattentive.
The most frustrating part was the poolside bar and dining. Even in the premium pool area, there were only one or two people working at a time. It often took 30+ minutes to receive drinks (if they arrived at all without reminders), and food service was painfully slow—we once waited nearly two hours for a simple appetizer. Oddly, the premium pool’s bar opened later than the lower-tier pool’s, and room service ended at 9pm, which felt surprisingly early for a luxury resort.
This property clearly has immense potential—its aesthetic and setting are exceptional—but the service felt more in line with a mid-tier Marriott than a five-star experience. I’d recommend it if you can find a lower rate, but at full price, I actually preferred our experience at their sister hotel, The Colony, which is marketed as a step down but delivered far better service.

Stayed at the bungalows for our baby moon / first Mother’s Day and had a fantastic experience all around. Service was great, some honorable mentions: Briana at the pool was always attentive to our needs and so pleasant, Angela at the desk was sweet and personable she made some recommendations for food and even brought out car around when bellman was busy so we didn’t have to miss our reservation, Angela housekeeping supervisor was kind and hospitable her entire team was amazing !
The bungalows were perfect and pool was very enjoyable. Loved the turn down service nightly and need to come back asap for those pancakes!
