  I had one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I’m an avid traveler who has traveled extensively around the world and throughout California, so I don’t write reviews like this lightly. I was traveling solo with my service dog to spend a few days hiking in the redwoods and enjoying the Fourth of July festivities. I’ve stayed in both the Blue Lake and Arcata areas before, but this time I chose this hotel because I wanted to be within walking distance of downtown. After a long drive from Mendocino, I checked in, turned on the TV, and fell asleep. In the middle of the night, I was awakened by someone aggressively knocking on my door and trying to get me to open it. As a woman traveling alone, it was frightening. I called the front desk expecting help. Instead, the night clerk immediately accused me of causing a noise disturbance, claimed I wasn’t sleeping, and threatened to evict me if “you guys kept partying.” I repeatedly explained that I was alone in the room with my dog and we both were sleeping but she refused to listen. She even said: “You don’t sound like you were sleeping.” I was stunned. That is not how a paying guest should be treated. The interaction left me feeling unsafe and caused significant emotional distress. I contacted my travel agency and checked out first thing the morning. I ended up canceling the rest of my trip and returned home instead of spending the holiday exploring the Humboldt area. To the hotel’s credit, they refunded my stay in full after I reported the incident, and I appreciate that gesture. However, it doesn’t change how upsetting the experience was or the fact that it completely derailed my trip. If there was a legitimate noise complaint, it should have been handled professionally and respectfully. As a solo female traveler, I did not feel safe or supported, and I would not stay here again.

  We really loved this place! The staff are so kind and helpful. The pool area can't be beat with a large hot tub, pool and plenty of seating areas and a fire table. Breakfast was good for complimentary and the location was very convenient! Would definitely recommend.

  Wonderful staff, but unfortunately, our room was next to 101. It was very noisy, so if you are a light sleeper, consider a different location. Other than that, it is a fine place to spend a night. We didn’t get to use either the pool or hot tub. I don’t think it was worth $260. Again, they do have wonderful beds.

  This hotel is awesome! It’s a must stay if you’re in the area, everything about this hotel is great! Great, clean rooms great breakfast and great service! Stacy and everybody in the office do a great job! We left $1000 cash in the room and they found it and mailed it to us in another city while on our 3 week PCH tour. Stacy saved our vacation! OK it was my medication and my wife’s jeans but Stacy still saved our vacation and the Humboldt Bay Inn Best Western Plus in Eureka is a great place to stay! It’s a cool little town and they have a limo to run you to any restaurant you want!… or you can have food delivered to the room by the awesome on-site restaurant! Highly recommend!

  We stayed here for one night on a road trip around California. It is an average motel which has bumped itself into a higher league by having a wonderful pool and jacuzzi area with a great fire pit and even an outdoor pool table. There is also a courtesy limousine available to ensure you get to your restaurant and back safely. So far all good, but there was a huge con to my Best Western booking. Within 2 days of booking, my booking details had been hacked due to negligent security either at this location or at Best Western in general. I was contacted by the ‘Hotel’ with all the details of my booking (so looking like it was legitimate) advising that I just needed to upload my credit card details again to confirm the reservation (looking suspicious) I contacted Best Western immediately to confirm if this was a legitimate correspondence and was told that they didn’t need any further banking details so this was clearly a phishing attack made all the worse by having details only Best Western would have. However they didn’t seem to take this very seriously and it was weeks before best Western actually emailed me to advise that they were investigating unauthorised access to bookings and ‘Don’t click on any links from us’ advice. Goodness knows how many of their customer’s bank details have been compromised by poor processes by this company. A great example of closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. I’m unlikely to ever book with best Western again because a company that does not value its own security clearly is not going to value mine. If I’d not had the presence of mind to spot this attack it could’ve turned out to be a huge nightmare right before a once in a lifetime holiday which would’ve ruined the whole trip completely.
