I come here about 1month out of the year for the local walnut harvest. There service has always been great. I have never had any issues with parking , I have had my car broken into at another hotel in Chico which is why I had initially chose this Holiday inn. The only real complaint I have it the hallways are carpet and it had a light funky smell to it , but it's not noticeable when you are in your room. There's plenty of food near me he hotel as well so that's a plus

I am a member of IHG and have stayed at Holiday Inn Expresses all over the world for years. Over ths past year(2026), They have gone downhill in the U.S.
The 4 story hotel was behind other buildings with no signage at the retail/office center's entry nor the building's front (as of 8/2026), and hard to find via Google Maps.
It was nice & well-kept, had friendly staff, and was near a LOT of shopping (with surprisingly well-stocked & managed chain stores) and small unique restaurants where things like hamburgers, dinner salads, or sandwiches w/fries were around $22+, entrees $30+, drinks $15, + tax & tip, ...so not very affordable for families of 4 or 5.
View was of the large parking lots on each side of the hotel. They desperately need to add a trellised garden-like courtyard, a small playground, and hot tub out back.
The tiny shallow indoor pool with no hot tub for achy joints, too small for laps, chlorine-filled hot air, and no wading area for kids, was always empty during my stay.
The little 'fridge in the room has no freezer for ice packs for the cooler in our cars or sore joints, so it was subpar.
The included breakfast was a lot of prepackaged foods, gluten, and processed carbs, plus little powered egg & cheese taco-like omelets, then a slow small pancake machine instead of waffles. The bacon pieces were good. So I just had coffee, bacon, & fruit.
The TV only had Mainstream Media Cable TV full of drug ads. It had no popular streaming channels such as YouTube (I like 'HowTo' videos!), unless one figures out how to stream to it from their Smart Phone. I could not, and did not know how if their system was secure or could 'read' my phone and spam me & my contacts, like FB does. So I had to watch videos on my little cell phone until I fell asleep, instead of the nice big (but worthless) TV.
Besides no hot tub, there was also no bar/lounge in or attached to the hotel to catch a nightcap or appetizer with the others in our large group. The Lobby only had sundries plus a small fridge with some canned beers for sale, then 2 coffee machines since the rooms had none.
So it was below what I normally expect at a Holiday Inn Express, but I see that as mostly a 2026 Corporate issue.
I do hope Corporate fixes it soon to appeal to athletes (and their Team), large groups, retirees, those touring California via car, and families, which is why I have previously preferred the Holiday Inn Expresses so much.
I hope IHG Corporate reads this.

One of the elevators is always broken and on this last trip we had ants in the room. They were super quick to respond and spray though.
