I would recommend riding this ride at California adventure. The drops are random so be aware. The plots amazing. If you’re a type of person that’s afraid of drops then I would recommend to close your eyes during the drops and open them when it stops dropping. Overall this ride was amazing.

I think this ride has to be the best ride at California adventure because it has great story telling and the ride has so much air time because it just has a seat belt and also has really great themeing. I feel like I can always wait in line for this ride no matter how long the line is because it brings more energy than every other ride at California adventure and I think in my opinion it is better than tower of terror

Brief online research does not tell you this but the GOTG ride is traumatizing/ terrifying/ horrible for kids 9 and younger - without a doubt.
There are 8-10 accelerated drops which are 2 seconds long each with one big drop. There is no storyline like tower of terror and no free fall drops. They are fast drops with continuous light bouncing in between the drops.
Don’t bring your kids if 9 years old or younger. The staff will say it’s fine. Online research will show it’s “more fun” than tower of terror because it’s not a spooky theme…It’s an action packed theme. But I think that is super misleading for parents.
The ride is more terrifying than Dropzone (5 second free fall drops outdoors). By comparison, GOTG only drops in pitch black in an enclosed elevator with all adults around you screaming their heads off (yes they are having fun). It’s a great ride for teenagers, thrill seeking kids and adults who like drops. But do not take your kids if 9 and younger even if they clear the 40” height limit.
For us we 1000% made this mistake. If you make this mistake I suggest you do this:
1) Validate your kids’ emotions (“yeah that was scary”).
2) Move quickly to a gentle kid friendly ride. We actually chose to do the Jellyfish Jumper ride bc it’s a drop but super gentle. That was a memorable ride because it’s outdoors giving you great view of the pier and does a dropping motion safe for a motion sick prone person (opposite of GOTG).
And 3) if you have the cash distract them with buying them a toy lol. This is to ensure the kids don’t get traumatized.
Note: There certainly are kids 9 and younger who will love the ride. But I’m speaking to the average kid (10-90th percentile) not to the outlier kid.
Because of misleading presentation of the ride vs actual ride I give this ride a flat 1 star.
