We are not birders, but visited Cave Creek Ranch to hike and explore the National Forest, which we had done only once before on a day trip. This time, we started our trip by stopping at the Chiricahua National Monument for a hike before venturing on. From there, we took Pinery Road to Cave Creek Ranch. The road is a standard forest road which is not maintained. We drive a 4x4 truck and anyone else considering taking the road should do so with a high clearance vehicle and little concern for an unmaintained road through the mountains with sheer drops and no guardrails. It was a thrilling trek into the canyon. We stayed at the Canyon View Cottage, which is separate from the rest of the property. The views of the canyon from the bedroom window in the mornings and evenings cannot be described. The cottage itself was equipped and well maintained. Linda (who lives on the property) comes by every morning to stock the feeders. She is absolutely lovely, full of information and insights into activities, and we really appreciated her during our stay on her property. In the mornings, we could see hummingbirds from the kitchen window. Daily, we sat in the enclosed porch and watched birds come and go from the feeders. It takes minutes to enter the canyon and hike or go birding or just enjoy the beauty of this pristine area. There is hardly any cell service anywhere (hiking above the canyon, you'll receive all of the text messages you've missed--nothing important). We loved our stay and we love this canyon. I was amazed to see hardly anyone traveling through over the course of 3 days. Who doesn't love a well kept secret? Yet, here I am telling everyone about it. Best to just be in the know and leave everyone else to hike the national parks. This is special wilderness with special lodging. We truly hope another magical stay is in our future.

A hidden gem! Lucky us we stayed at the Ranch House where we got to see the comings and goings of the staff who manage the many feeders. So much wildlife to see and unmatched birding opportunities. The area is quiet (no pets allowed) and the people are beyond helpful.

No cell service, so it's a great retreat to really purge from social media. There's a lot of human habituated wildlife here, so great opportunities to observe and photograph deer, javelina, coati, and all kinds of birds. Rooms are great, with kitchen amenities and full bathrooms, gorgeous views. No TV. A perfect place for anyone who truly enjoys the outdoors. We had a great time here.

Thank you for your amazing hospitality! The entire staff make you feel special. The view of the Chiricahua Mountains from my cottage near the stream was amazing (image attached)! I saw so many beautiful and colorful birds that I have never seen anywhere else! The hiking trails span the entire range with 300 miles across almost 100 trails with varying levels of difficulty. This is a naturalists wonderland!
