I stayed this past weekend for the Reptile Expo in Trussville and I agonized over finding a hotel that was reasonably priced for a simple over night, clean, had free breakfast, pest free, and was just generally pleasant to stay at. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Birmingham South - Pelham by IHG delivered on all these factors in spades and more! The staff were welcoming and pleasant to talk to. I brought up minor fixes needed in the room and they tried to go wayyy overboard to ensure I had a good room even offering to move rooms for me. I was tired and they were minor issues so I had no intention of waking my daughter to move rooms. I simply told them so they could be fixed before the next person. When I woke from a nap and couldn't get back to sleep I went to the front desk and had a really nice chat. Beds. Ok if you're short maybe bring a step stool because these beds were tall! Fluffy, comfortable, and pristine white covers made the bed warm and assured us that the bed was clean and bug free. I laughed but also appreciated the embroidered "soft" and "firm" pillow cases. I'm so picky with my pillow that I always bring my own but the soft pillows suited me perfectly. Fluffy and not flat they were the best in comfort and support for my neck. Bathroom was clean and stocked. The room itself had a mini fridge for our cooler of drinks and snacks. The room was clean and had just the right balance of comfort seating and space. After taking a nap I enjoyed the sitting chair by the window with a reading light. It was the perfect spot to quietly read while my daughter slept. I loved that it was arranged so we could leave the bathroom light on without the light spilling onto the beds. The breakfast was so good! Best buffet eggs I have ever eaten. Not rubbery or watery but nice, warm, and fluffy. My daughter loved the pancake machine and all the toppings. We both loved the juice and fresh fruit options. And as someone who can no longer drink coffee you have no idea how much I appreciated the hot chocolate and tea options that was with the lobby coffee station. As this was just an overnight stay with work the next morning we didn't take advantage of any of the on site facilities so can't really comment if you are intending on staying for a vacation. But I have marked this hotel on my map and will definitely be using them again when I need to stay in the Birmingham area. Oh and on that note their proximity to the interstate put them within 30 minutes of even the Trussville area.

We booked this overnight stay on our way to a further destination. Booked it through booking:com. The photos must’ve been taken years ago as it was definitely starting to show signs of wear. We booked a double queen room and were given a double full room. After being called and asked if we would switch to a king room with sofa bed. Absolutely not with a family of 4, exhausted from driving 8+ hours. The mattresses were in need of replacement but they added toppers to try and help, it wasn’t much help. The sheets were clean, the bathroom was clean. The pillows were firm. Breakfast was served and typical of continental, but not enough seating in their dining space. When we arrived there wasn’t anyone at the desk for a food 5-10 mins. Which was weird. It was only 10pm. I think the pictures need updated as we felt Catfished but was sufficient for a quick overnight.

Good location. Lots of attractions nearby but the road itself isn't super busy and overdeveloped. No pets allowed is a HUGE plus. All the workers we interacted with were quite friendly. Breakfast was good. Rooms weren't great. There was a lot of space and the fridge/tv/lights worked good, but the two queen beds were super sketchy and super noisy. Any little movement made a ton of racket and made for a very annoying few nights. Our AC stopped working during the afternoon and it got up to 78* in the room before I was forced to unplug and reset the unit. Hot water in the shower was fairly unreliable and temps fluctuated quite a bit. The pool room was nice. Despite what google says there is no hot tub here. The pool is heated slightly, so you aren't jumping into freezing cold water like I've seen at some of these Holiday Inns. The room itself was fairly clean. No huge issues with dust. Internet was total crap and unusable most of the time in our room. I don't think we would come here again unless they updated the bedframes.
