We witnessed the most horrendous act of hospitality we’ve ever seen in the lobby. A manager actually raised her voice, as if she was in the hood, at a disabled man with a service dog, because the service dog was with him getting dinner. The man was calm and was trying to show her the law and his valid service dog certificate and , she called the police and had him evicted. We will never stay here again. I can’t believe a manager raised their voice at one of their customers. Shame on her

I am not one to ever leave reviews—good, bad, or indifferent. However, our stay at Staybridge Suites in Gulf Shores was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share our experience in hopes that management addresses these issues and future guests know what to expect. My family stayed for five nights while we were in town for a baseball tournament, and unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations. Every single day we returned to the hotel, our room keys had been deactivated. After spending all day in the Alabama heat at the ballfields, the last thing we wanted to do was make another trip to the front desk just to get back into our room. This happened every day of our stay. We also found out we weren't the only ones dealing with these issues. Multiple families from our baseball team experienced the same problems with their room keys and the lack of housekeeping service. We also spoke with other guests throughout the hotel who shared similar experiences, so this clearly wasn't an isolated incident. The room also had a sign stating that stays under seven nights would receive light housekeeping, including fresh towels and trash removal. That only happened maybe twice during our five-night stay. The rest of the time we had to ask for towels ourselves. Even worse, when we requested four towels for our family, we were repeatedly told they either didn't have enough available or that there weren't any because they were still in the laundry. On more than one occasion, we were told towels would be brought to our room once the laundry was finished, but they never arrived. The same excuse was given every time we asked for pool towels—there simply weren't any available. On our last day, housekeeping brought fresh trash bags to our room but didn't actually empty or remove the trash. They simply left the new trash bags sitting on the table and walked out. That pretty much summed up the level of service we experienced throughout our stay. The biggest disappointment wasn't just the lack of towels or housekeeping—it was the customer service. Every request seemed like an inconvenience, and no one appeared interested in resolving the issues. Hospitality is supposed to make guests feel welcome, but we never felt that way during our stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are plenty of other places in Gulf Shores that will appreciate your business. Save yourself the frustration and spend your money elsewhere.

We travel a lot and stayed here for a special event nearby. We stayed Wed-Sun. We’re not super picky when it comes to hotels: Room near a staircase? OK. Basic breakfast? No problem. An outlet by the night stand that doesn’t work? That’s fine. No towels at the pool? It happens. This hotel had those issues and SO MUCH MORE. The receptionist was sleeping in the back room instead of helping of my daughter with a room key issue (my daughter heard her snoring). Our key cards repeatedly deactivated for no reason at all, and if we reset one, the other would deactivate soon after. We called for towels and waited 7 HOURS for them because they had to wash some (and we had to ask two more times before they remembered to give them to us). Housekeeping was supposed to stop by every weekday to replace towels, make beds, take out trash, and load the dishwasher. I didn’t care about the beds or dishwasher — we just needed towels replaced and trash taken out. We NEVER had a housekeeper come into our room. We ended up leaving our trash in a bag outside in the hallway. The first time, someone picked it up, but the second day it sat there for almost 24 hours. Housekeeping was in our hallway to turn over the room next door, and still never came to ours. My husband had to take trash to the dumpster himself. He put old, wet bath and pool towels in a trash bag and took them to the front desk himself. The receptionist acted like we were bothering her every time we asked for help with something (towels, pool towels, key cards, etc). The accessible room has a terrible shower that floods the whole bathroom floor. The mirrors were replaced and cover part of the outlet, so you can’t plug larger plugs in (like the supplied hair dryer). Our neighbors were told to grab their own towels from the staff laundromat. Housekeeping took all of their towels—hanging and on the floor—and didn’t replace any of them. They also called ahead to ask if the hotel had tools for the BBQ out by the pool and were told, “We have everything you need” only to get there and learn that the hotel didn’t have a lighter for the gas grill. The location of this hotel was great — Target nearby, nice gas stations, easy trip to the touristy/beach stuff. They did supply a laundry basket, a hair dryer, basic coffee maker, and a nice ironing board/iron. The drawers were clean. But I can’t in good conscience recommend this hotel to anyone the way it is right now.

We will not be staying here again. Pros: We liked having a kitchenette in the room. They had complimentary bags of ice at the front desk because the ice makers in the small fridge don’t make very much. The beds and pillows were pretty comfy. The breakfast had some good scones but those cleared out very fast. Other than that there was a waffle maker, eggs, sausage, and cereal. Nothing overly impressive and didn’t seem to be replenished for the whole breakfast time. Cons: We had to have our room keys rekeyed at least 5 times over our 3 night stay because they stopped working. After the first time we assumed it was the magnet in our phones so we placed them far from each other but it still happened. There is only one elevator for the whole hotel. It takes forever and is very small, so there are times you may have to wait for it to come 2-3 times because there’s no room. The stairs are on complete opposite ends of the elevator if you decide you don’t want to wait it out. The pool is VERY small so if more than two or three families are out there it would be crowded. No towels at the pool like advertised. Pool had balls of hair stuck to the filter at the bottom and on the pool deck. Dirt and leaves in pool as well. Now for the room; we put up our “No Housekeeping Needed” door hanger up while we went out on our first day only to come back to one bed made, trash emptied, and our towels that we had hanging up gone. Wouldn’t have been a huge deal but our towels were not replenished, so we had nothing but a hand towel. We went to the front desk to ask for towels and were told they were all being washed. As a hotel I don’t understand how ALL the towels can be dirty. We did finally get some later in the day but had to go back to front desk and ask again. If you need anything you will be going to the desk and waiting for it, no one is going to bring anything up to you. Bags of trash and piles of towels stayed in hall most of the day waiting on housekeeping. Shower had mildew built up on walls, so did bathroom fan. Clearly not cleaned well, if at all. There were used acne patches on the shower wall. Shower liner looked like it hadn’t been changed in a long time, it was pink from mildew. Entire hotel and room didn’t smell great either. Air vents were crusty with layers of chipped paint and dirt. Air conditioner worked well but was loud when it turned on. Tried to be nice and run dishwasher but it was so loud I had to turn it off. It was louder than my washing machine at home. Note on the location as well…while it is pretty convenient to the beach, when you are traveling back to the hotel from the beach you have to drive past the hotel and make a U-turn at the light. The turning lane was always backed up and we had to wait through 2-3 light cycles every time. They are long cycles too. Not a huge deal but just not convenient at all! As for the staff a couple of them were nice but the other seemed annoyed that we had to ask for anything. “The Pantry” was barely stocked of anything to buy for snacks.

The location was excellent, and the room size was spacious. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended for our stay. The hotel’s housekeeping operations need significant improvement. We stayed for three nights, and our room was never serviced during our entire visit. The carpets were very dirty—to the point that the bottoms of my children’s white socks turned black after walking around the room. We had to wear shoes inside the room the entire time. Additionally, two of our towels had visible stains. When we contacted the front desk to request replacements, we were told to come downstairs and pick them up ourselves because there was no staff available to deliver them to the room. We truly enjoyed the surrounding area, but based on our experience with the hotel’s cleanliness and service, we will definitely book an Airbnb for our next visit.
