About

HotelWedding VenueConference CenterBusiness Meeting LocationsHotel Indigo
The Hotel Indigo Birmingham is located in a landmark Art Deco style building dating from the early 1930s in the city's historic Five Points South neighborhood. The hotel is situated in the booming and vibrant town of Birmingham near UAB. Hotel Indigo is set in the lively and roaring entertainment district of Birmingham, reminiscent of Bourbon street. Originally designed for medical offices and across from the first apothecary in Birmingham, the building became a hotel in the 1980s, but still retains its original medical insignia etched above the elevator doors. The hotel's design acknowledges the building's rich history, while incorporating modern amenities, like hardwood floors, spa inspired showers, luxury bath amenities and linens. We are also adding some exciting and tasty options to an area already known as one of the city's premier dining and entertainment districts. The Rx Lounge pays homage to the medical apothecary theme and provides prescriptions in the form of food and beverage.

Honestly? The breakfast is lacking and The Original Pancake House down the street tried to kill me. But the neighborhood has has real, pulsing history. There are enough restaurants within two city blocks to keep either the pickiest eater or the worldliest gourmand satisfied for at least a month. Seriously - get over to the ramen place and Insomnia Cookies (on, maybe, 11th? All the streets are numbers...). The staff has actual warmth and customer service demeanor. The room is charming. The main demerit I will give it is that the fridge had been turned off or all the way down - I put some potato pancakes in and the fridge had an odor when I came back - then I had to clean it out well because even after turning it on and removing the offending food from the room, the odor lingered (the sour cream had turned quickly). And it was hard to close the fridge or its cabinet because of some peeling paint or shelf paper under the front of the fridge. Then, the shower took a bit of time to turn on or off all the way, and the body wash holster on the wall was broken, causing the dispenser itself to fall out and break when I tried to pump the soap the first night. I swapped it for the one on the counter to have a usable one in the shower, but that meant using a broken off handle to pump hand soap (I was only there a couple nights so didn't get chance to have them swap out the pump - FYI if the hotel reads this it is room 509; please check the wall clip on the body wash). But these are really nits. The room (suite - an upgrade, which is a status perk) was very nice, with a clear separation between bedroom and sitting area that let me work while my husband rested, which I recommend. The small footprint of each floor also meant not as far to walk to our room!

Our Stay At The Indigo In Birmingham Was Awesome, Mrs. Katrina And Mrs. Tamica Are 2 Of The Nicest And Courteous People And The Hotel Is In A Great Location For Walking To Different Food Areas. The Rooms Were Very Comfortable And Very Neat And Clean, Thanks For Such An Outstanding Stay And Service.

Unfortunately, this hotel did not meet the standards I expected from a 4-star property. The location did not feel safe for a family stay, and the room was not clean when we arrived. Another major inconvenience was the room temperature—you had to contact the front desk if you wanted to change the temperature, rather than being able to control it yourself. Overall, I was very disappointed with the experience. This hotel does not feel like a 4-star property, and I believe IHG should conduct an audit to make sure the hotel is meeting the standards expected of guests and families

I booked this hotel because it was a slightly better deal. The location was ideal in relation to places to eat which is a big thing for me. My impression of my first room was good, then I started noticing a bunch of things wrong. Baseboards separating from the walls, flooring coming up, stains on the walls, there was a gnat(s) in the room and even the fridge had an issue….there were zero shelves and it was fairly warm in it. I got a second room and it was slightly better. Heavy on being slightly better. I’m glad I was only there for one night.

There was no one available for valet or for check in when we arrived- had to wait several minutes for anyone to show up- desk clerk was nice when she checked us in, but was very awkward with the owner there. 2 very small elevators, which one doesn't work, bathroom door (sliding door) hits the ceiling and doesn't close at all, and they do not have caffeinated coffee in room available. I will not stay here again.
