As a lifelong Alaskan, this place took my breath away! The Yurts were beautiful with stunning views, the beds were comfortable, everything you need from a hot shower to an oven and an outdoor grill but still feel like you are in a remote, private exclusive destination. The kayak trip was a lot of fun and got to check out a hike with beautiful waterfalls and scenery. I would highly recommend a staycation here, worth the splurge and every penny. Hope to go back next summer and add in a fishing charter. Make sure you bring a variety of clothing and gear, including
Xtratuffs, hiking shoes, windbreaker, gloves, for kayaking, etc.

Orca Island Cabins was the most wonderful experience my husband and I have ever had during our travels in Alaska. It was quiet with gorgeous scenery. The staff was attentive to our needs and very personable. I have to give a shout out to Simon. I had an email that stated hot cocoa would be in the yurts, and I jokingly said that I did not see any. Simon immediately said that he would make it right and the next day, I had hot cocoa. After my return to Seward was when I realized I was looking at an email that was 7 months old from I originally booked the reservation. I'm so sorry, Simon, but know that you made our day! I would highly recommend OIC to anyone going to Seward. It was not only a bucket list item for us, but a highlight of our entire trip through Alaska. Thank you to all the wonderful staff that make OIC what it is!

Our stay at Orca Island Cabins was an unforgettable highlight of our trip to Seward! From the moment we arrived, every detail exceeded our expectations.
Captain Simon made our boat transfers enjoyable and seamless, and his knowledge and friendly personality set the tone for an incredible experience. Our overnight host, Megan, was warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. Taylor was absolutely fantastic—not only as our host but also as the guide for our wildlife viewing excursion.
The wildlife tour aboard the intimate six-person boat was incredible. Taylor’s enthusiasm, knowledge of the area, and ability to spot wildlife made for an unforgettable adventure. Seeing Alaska’s amazing marine life in such a small group setting made the experience feel personal and truly special.
The yurts were cozy, comfortable, and perfectly situated to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Orca Island. If you’re looking for an authentic Alaskan adventure with exceptional hospitality, this is the place. Thank you, Captain Simon, Megan, and Taylor, for making our stay so memorable. We can’t recommend Orca Island Cabins highly enough!

Lived up to the hype
We had a fantastic stay. The yurts are very well appointed and made everything comfortable and special. We opted to have four people in one yurt to save a few bucks and that suited us just fine. Grocery pick up made getting our food there a breeze. We had one day of rain which we spent relaxing and cozy.
As promised, cell service (Verizon) was limited. A couple days we had small spurts of service near the common areas. That piece was fantastic. The hike to the WWII bunker was not an easy hike but it was breathtaking. The waterfall kayak trip was also absolutely worth it. It was fantastic just taking out a sea kayak whenever we wanted. Having coffee available in the yurts was such a welcome touch.
The resident sea otter and harbor seal (Sasha) were so fantastic to see. We also saw horned puffins. No whales this time.
On-site staff were awesome and down to earth folks as well as the captains for getting to and from there.
Side note:
We felt the request for additional 5-15% gratuity in the yurts was somewhat surprising. The price for the stay felt justifiable by the experience and the included services such as transfers to the island and having your luggage carried to the yurt, which was very much appreciated.
Couple small oopsies like receiving another guests groceries in our room and the grill grease tray not being emptied prior to arriving which resulted in losing our steak dinner. Otherwise, we have nothing but glowing things to say about the place. It is truly something special that’s worth experiencing.

I cannot say enough great things about our stay at Orca Island Cabins. My husband and I stayed 2 nights which is the minimum I’d recommend staying to truly immerse yourself in this slice of paradise. Orca Island Cabins website and FAQ section had us fully prepared for our experience (remote location, need to bring food, no WiFi, young children not allowed, etc), and any negative reviews seem to be individuals lacking in reading comprehension.
I loved our cozy yurt, our amazing view of Humpy Cove, and the main bridge on the property—SO unique! The owners have truly created something special here allowing you to escape the everyday hustle and bustle and connect with nature and your traveling companion. We enjoyed our private dinners grilled on our balcony while taking in the views and we loved just lounging with a book or a cocktail (bring your supplies!).
We also took advantage of the provided kayaks to go about 20 minutes each way to a gorgeous waterfall. We were the only ones there—AMAZING! Although I know kayak companies in the area charge a pretty penny to take you on a tour that goes there. I factored not having to pay for a kayak tour in to the cost of our stay.
The water taxi to and from Orca Island Cabins was also a treat. Our Captain, Simon, made sure to point out wildlife both trips and we were lucky enough to see a humpback whale both directions. We also woke up to a Humpback whale right outside our first morning there.
Seriously, if you’re ok roughing it just a bit (no room service, no chocolate on your pillow), do not hesitate to book your stay at Orca Island Cabins. For us this was part of a 12 day trip in Alaska including a week long cruise and this was hands down our favorite part of the whole trip—we will be back!!!
