I'm guessing because it's cheaper to book ahead of time and they could get more money out of the people booking late. 💁♀️ I know it was because I booked through Hotels.com rather than directly through them but it shouldn't matter. Even the Hotels.com agent called and went back and forth with the lady at the counter telling her we should have had a reservation secured.
