I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Our stay at the Crowne Plaza Shenandoah in The Woodlands was unacceptable from beginning to end. There was no manager available at any point when we needed it, only front desk staff who showed no willingness to take responsibility for anything.
When we arrived, tired in the afternoon, there was a sign in our room promoting room service starting at 4 p.m. It clearly said: “Crowne Plaza In Room Dining, Dinner, Bar and Small Bites, Happy Hour 4 to 6 p.m.” Since the room phone did not work, I went down to the restaurant. First they told me that the QR code menu on the advertisement found in every room was outdated and gave me another one. After I placed my order, they informed me that room service was not available and that we had to dine downstairs. I even showed them the sign taken from our room with the Crowne Plaza logo, but they simply ignored it.
I went to the front desk to complain, and the person working there told me that the restaurant was an independent service and that he could not do anything. I explained that if that were the case, the advertisement in the room should display the name of the restaurant instead of the hotel name. It was misleading. Because of this situation, we had to leave the hotel to find a proper place to eat.
The overall condition of the room was also disappointing. The pillows were extremely soft, the A C smelled like humidity, and the carpet was filthy and had clearly not been vacuumed before our check in. The next morning, we realized there was no hot water in the bathroom sink. We left early, and when we returned at night, the room had not been cleaned and we found the same wet towels. This hotel provides two door signs, one for Do Not Disturb and one for No Service Needed, and we had used neither.
At the front desk, the person attending us responded with an unprofessional and mocking attitude. She told us, smiling, that housekeeping does not clean rooms unless requested, and that if cleaning is requested more than once there is an extra charge. Nobody informed us of this policy and there is no sign anywhere explaining it. I brought my wet towels to the desk to request replacements, and she told me I could not leave them there. When I explained that I did not want to place them on the floor, she laughed again and said it was 11 p.m., she was tired, and there was nothing she could do. She added that I should complain to the person who handled our check in the next morning.
When I went back to the room, frustrated and exhausted, I opened the nightstand drawer and a cockroach came out. Since the phone still did not work, I could not call anyone even if I wanted to. At that point, we decided to move to another hotel, but it was already past midnight, so we waited until morning to check out. At check out, we received nothing more than a simple apology, with no attempt to compensate or address the multiple issues we experienced.
This hotel lacks proper hygiene, maintenance, and basic customer service. We will never return and cannot recommend this property to anyone.
