Stayed at Hotel Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk and honestly… 10/10 experience.
The staff? Super friendly. Everything was smooth, accommodating, and just easy—which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to relax.
BUT the real highlight?
The hotel cat.
I have no idea what its name is (we tried, failed, and accepted defeat), but my girlfriend was absolutely obsessed. Like, forget the River Walk, forget the room—this cat became the main attraction. Every time we saw it, it turned into a full event.
At one point I’m pretty sure we planned our movements around where the cat might be.
The hotel could honestly advertise: “Free cat included” and it would still be underselling the experience.
Great stay, great service, and an unexpected emotional attachment to a mysterious cat. Would absolutely come back… mostly to see if the cat remembers us.
Please look at the lowest reviews because those reflect mine and my family's experience at this location. The pictures are accurate from the reviews... don't be fooled by the photoshop website pictures, they probably are pictures of the hotel... 15 years ago. recent stay at the indigo hotel left a lot to be desired. While the staff was friendly, the smell in the building left me with a covered nose and a headache. It smelled like cheap air freshener, bug spray, and paint. There is no free breakfast for most guest and the lobby is very outdated. Parking is across the street for 20 bucks a night.valet is 50bucks a day, which is insane for a location surrounded by abandoned buildings and frequent drug users. The pool was cold, cloudy, and small, prepare to do the cha cha slide to just walk around the pool. The room was a little dirty and outdated. The shower had hair in it and I don't think the shower attachment is sanitary. The room also felt stuffy like the air wasn't circulating. They also had a note the first night that the water would be off from 12am to 2am The end of the river walk where the hotel is located has nothing! It's like a 15+ min walk to the fun and restaurants. The air-conditioner was so loud I thought a drum was being played. Also the room was very dark despite the few lamps.

This hotel is on the north end of the river so it is nice and quite but a walk to get to the main part.
Overall the issue I saw was lack of care from the operating staff. The sitting area by the lobby was not organized with pillows in place and dirty couches and furniture out of place. The bar area was not fully set up and the staff had no personality. The outside pool area had broken and ripped furniture and all unorganized as well. The pool was very filthy and I heard a upper staff advise the mainteance to drain it as much as possible and by the morning nothing was done it was the same. The front entrance had dead plants and a water hose strung about.
Hotels are typically there for presentation and with such simples things to be done -shows lack of staff caring. It's not the end of the world but it will make a client return or not.

My only complaint is that our room only had half a shower door and the shower head didn't have all of its water spouts working. The location itself is truly beautiful if you appreciate San Antonio. This was a local stay for me. The location is not around "abandoned buildings" as someone not familiar with the area claimed. It's directly across from the Tobin Center so perfect if you're seeing a show. It's off of St. Mary's which is one of best areas for night life in the city. It's within two blocks of UTSA Southwestern School of Art. It's minutes from downtown and the Alamo. If you walk south on the Riverwalk about 2.5 miles you get to the tourist loop most people are looking for, and if you walk north 2 miles you get to the Pearl. The Riverwalk is fine to walk on at night and I've done it dozens of times. Yes, there are homeless people on the Riverwalk here and there at night but they very rarely bother anyone.
I was pretty disappointed for this being an IHG hotel. We won’t come back to stay again. I’ll break down the experience.
ARRIVAL- There was no one at the front when we arrived to check-in, when someone walked up she had a hoodie and a backpack on, said, “Oh you checking-in? My bad.” She asked for my name and cc, while opening up a stack of room cards, it was odd and unprofessional, not welcoming at all. Felt like we were being scammed or something, super sketchy.
COST- We paid @$1700 for 4 nights, walking in the halls gave off a dirty motel feeling.
PARKING- We had to pay the ridiculous parking fees then walk across the street to the parking area, the front is too small to off-load your vehicle if you have bags from shopping so you will walk w/bags from the parking lot across the street,
ROOM- Subpar, gnats in the shower, not very clean, small, bed was comfy⭐️, room was just very basic
PATIO NOT BALCONY- I thought we were going to be able to enjoy the Riverwalk view while I drink my morning coffee, (didn’t happen), but the “balcony” per the IHG app was instead a first floor patio that was 5 steps from where other guests sit on the hotel patio so no privacy to sit and enjoy with my spouse without an audience, the grass by the patio was where people take their dogs to potty, but was blocked off (kinda glad so I didn’t have to see and smell dog poop when I walked out on the patio) but blocked off bc of glass d/t someone on one of the top floors busting out the window (2weeks ago per staff)
POOL- can only hold @4 people and @2 people to layout in the sun, so if you aren’t first you won’t fit,
LOCATION- wasn’t bad if you are okay with being on the quiet end of the Riverwalk and having to walk 6-ish + blocks to the restaurants and shops. Be careful of the steps going down to the Riverwalk, they are steep, the walk is narrow along the river, and there were homeless along the way…..use your imagination with what they were doing.
In the 6 years I’ve stayed at IHG hotels this was one of the more expensive stays and not worth the money honestly in my opinion.
