I was planning to attend a reunion with the unit I deployed to Iraq with (2007–2008), and this hotel was the designated location. As a professional K-9 handler, I have two highly trained working dogs—one narcotics detection and one explosives detection—that I rely on daily for my job.
I contacted the hotel ahead of time to make proper arrangements and was told they do not allow K-9s unless they are classified as service animals.
What’s frustrating is that while the hotel allows “service animals,” anyone can claim their dog is one, and many of those dogs have little to no training. Meanwhile, my dogs are professionally trained, highly disciplined working K-9s that perform real-world detection work, and they are not permitted.
These are not pets I can just leave with anyone—there are no local facilities capable of properly handling them, and they require experienced handlers.
As a combat veteran attending a reunion with my former unit, I expected a little more understanding and flexibility, especially given the nature of the work these dogs perform. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Very disappointing experience.
This is a very low end hotel. Outlets hanging from the wall, half the room lights don’t work, mini fridge doesn’t function, basic cable on the TV (no Netflix capabilities), the room was excessively dirty in general especially the floors, terribly uncomfortable beds….the only positive thing I would say about here is the location for the riverwalk access. The hotel itself is terrible. I only booked due to a VB tournament team all being at same hotel. Oh and don’t forget! Parking is $50 PER NIGHT. There’s a reason people don’t book holiday inns anymore.

I enjoy staying here, it is a very convenient location in my opinion. Near everything I want to walk to. Excellent service at the bar and restaurant.
I will say I purchased a breakfast package for my room, and wasn't told in advance that only children 11 and under eat free. I assumed it was all children eat free. The first few times we got breakfast my son did eat free. However, I had to pay for it at some point because they insisted he could not eat free as he is over 11. This was annoying, the front desk was no help with this because they said the hotel restaurant is separate from the hotel itself and that I'd probably need to speak to a manager.
It's not really an issue, I just wish I was notified in advance of this as I budgeted heavily for this and the extra cost was not expected.
There also seemed to be some miscommunication regarding when the manager would be at the hotel to help me? I was told 8:00 in the morning. I went to the desk at 8:00 and they told me 9:30. I went at 9:30 and they told me she just went into a meeting. I came back later and never actually got to speak with the manager. They basically just told me that they couldn't do anything. Awesome, they gave me some points. But I still felt spurned.
I am not really blaming the staff or the hotel for these issues as I recognize everybody was just doing their job and it was probably over their pay grade. This is definitely a higher up issue. I've been here a few times, but this last time gave me pause on coming back.
Upon arrival, I went to check my room before taking my luggage in. The first room was still very dirty, food crumbs on the floor, make up on the comforter, hair in the shower. I went down and explained to the front desk, and he immediately gave me a new room/room key. The room still was not very clean but I things to do, so I was not fighting through it again. We adjusted the temperature in the room before going to dinner and when we got back it smelled horribly of mold/mildew and the AC would not come on. We went downstairs and notified the front desk and informed them of allergies to scented products, so they sent housekeeping up with scented products. The front desk also offered a box fan if maintenance wasn't able to fix the AC issue. I explained to housekeeping that I didn't need a temporary solution of a scented product, I needed maintenance to look at the AC to figure out why the AC was not working properly and it smelled so bad. Maintenance came in and poured some chemicals down the drains and did an override to the AC settings so it would turn on and stay on. The smell wasn't as bad the remainder of the stay, but still present. For the amount of money we spent to stay, I shouldn't have to deal with 2 dirty rooms, mildew/mold smell, and an AC that doesn't want to work. I was also told my parking would be comped as a good faith for the issues, and that didn't happen either.

My mother currently at the Holiday Inn on the San Antonio River Walk and I’m extremely disappointed with how my family is being treated.
My mother prepaid $39 for parking at this hotel, yet when she arrived there was no parking available. Because of this, my mother and my 6-year-old son have been sitting in front of the hotel with nowhere to park, even though the parking was already paid for it’s 10:00pm.
What made the situation worse was the way a staff member named Erin spoke to my mother. She was very rude and dismissive instead of trying to help resolve the issue. No guest should be treated this way, especially a grandmother traveling with a young child.
As a military service member currently in San Antonio, it’s extremely frustrating to feel helpless while my mother and young son are being treated this way. If parking is prepaid, there should be a space available or the hotel should help resolve the situation immediately.
I hope management addresses both the parking issue and the way guests are being treated.I’m currently at the Holiday Inn on the San Antonio River Walk and I’m extremely disappointed with how my family is being treated.
